Great Malvern Priory are recruiting for a voluntary Volunteer Coordinator

This role supports the Operations Manager to recruit, train and supervise our various teams of volunteers. They act as a liaison between the volunteers and Priory Management. They will identify volunteer training needs and will support the Priory’s operations and activities, ensuring that the Priory has appropriate volunteer staff to be able to remain open during scheduled opening hours.

As part of this role you will need to:

  • Act as the main point of contact for the different volunteer team leaders.
  • Maintain contact with volunteer team leaders and provide regular updates on changes to operations and policies.
  • Support the delivery of the volunteer recruitment process, including safer recruitment according to the Priory’s volunteer recruitment policies.
  • Deliver induction training for all new volunteers.
  • Help volunteers to enjoy their experience of the Priory – for instance, by arranging opportunities for social gatherings, recognising and celebrating the volunteers’ contribution to Priory life, ensuring volunteers feel known and seen.
  • Encourage more people to join the Priory as a volunteer – for instance, by helping to produce recruitment materials and organise recruitment drives.
  • Have a good knowledge of the Priory's relevant policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to and help review the Priory’s volunteer policies and procedures.
  • Be vigilant regarding the safety and security of the Priory building and its contents, visitors and volunteers, reviewing and contributing to risk assessments.
  • Manage our volunteer contacts – mainly via ChurchSuite and Microsoft 365 documents hosted in online storage.
  • Meet once a month with the Operations Manager of the Priory (either in person or online).

Skills, experience and qualities

We are seeking someone with previous experience of working with volunteers, ideally but not necessarily in a church context. Training will be given and you will be supported and accompanied in the delivery of this role by the Operations Manager.

  • Enjoyment of interacting with members of the public and other volunteers
  • Regular availability to remain in frequent communication with volunteers
  • Ability to follow procedures but use own initiative and seek advice when appropriate
  • A willingness to learn
  • The ability to work within a team and interact positively with other volunteers
  • IT skills
