JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: VMT – Singing Department: Music Hours of Work: Various – VMT Role Responsible To: Director of Music Responsible For: N/A Summary of Role We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic singing teacher to join our dynamic team of Visiting Music Teachers. As a VMT, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality vocal instruction to students of various ages and skill levels in a variety of styles and genres. You will have existing experience as a teacher and your passion for music, combined with your excellent teaching skills, will foster a love for music and singing among our students. General tasks and responsibilities: • To teach inspirational singing lessons to pupils in Years 7 – 13, adapting teaching to meet the needs of a range of abilities, varying from beginner to diploma standard. • To direct or assist with ensembles as requested by the Director of Music. • To operate within VMT guidelines as specified by Woldingham School. • To monitor, record and report on pupils’ progress. • To meet administrative deadlines. • To assist in preparing pupils’ GCSE and/or A level performance coursework and recordings. • To assist in preparing pupils for internal and external concerts, competitions and performances. • To prepare pupils for junior and/or senior conservatoire auditions. • To prepare pupils for choral scholarship auditions and interviews. • To be responsible for assessing stock – reporting need for maintenance, repair, purchase and hire to the Director of Music. • To communicate regularly with parents and other staff. • To timetable lessons appropriately to ensure that lessons do not fall on the same academic subject more than once every 6 weeks. • To respect and support the Health, Safety and Safeguarding policies of Woldingham School. PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential Desirable • A master’s degree in music or equivalent • Experience of teaching in a similar setting. Operational Excellence • An undergraduate degree in Music or equivalent • Demonstrable expertise and mastery of singing in a variety of styles and genres, with a strong background in performance and pedagogy • Proven experience of teaching singing to students of different ages and skill levels, preferably within a school setting • An enthusiastic and passionate singing teacher and singer • Well-known and established in the music profession in the UK • Good ICT skills Personal Behaviours • A good communicator who can inspire and nurture an interest in the subject • A genuine passion for teaching and a commitment to the musical development of all students • The ability to work as part of a busy team • High standards and the ability to adapt and bring out the best in all pupils • Positive and proactive; able to solve problems Ethos and Whole School Values • Committed to operating as part of the School community. • Committed to the Sacred Heart Values. • Committed to Woldingham as a school with high academic standing providing a holistic education and outstanding pastoral care. Visiting Music Teachers (VMTs) are responsible for their own timetable, sourcing of resources and repertoire. VMTs are supported by the Director of Music and the Music Department Administrator. VMTs are self-employed have direct contact with parents and guardians regarding invoices and payment. A charge is payable to the School in exchange for access to, and use of, the School’s facilities. Opportunities to support or lead an ensemble or other musical activity may be available; this is remunerated separately.
