We are looking for passionate individuals to join our Visitor Experience Team as part of the Chain Ferry operation at Harewood House. The Chain Ferry is a unique and much-loved part of the visitor experience, and this role offers the opportunity to work in a beautiful outdoor setting while helping guests enjoy everything Harewood House has to offer.

About the Role

As a member of the Chain Ferry Team, you will help provide a safe, welcoming and enjoyable ferry service across the lake. Working closely with another team member, you’ll operate the ferry, assist visitors on and off board, answer enquiries and ensure every guest receives a first-class experience.

This is a hands-on outdoor role that requires excellent customer service skills, awareness of safety procedures and a positive, flexible attitude.

The role includes working outside in all weathers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the safe daily operation of the Chain Ferry
  • Carry out routine maintenance and presentation checks
  • Welcome and assist visitors boarding and leaving the ferry
  • Help maintain safety procedures and report any concerns promptly
  • Operate the ferry controls and manual ramp safely and efficiently
  • Engage positively with visitors, staff and volunteers
  • Answer visitor enquiries in a professional and friendly manner
  • Resolve complaints or issues positively and proactively
  • Encourage visitors to explore the wider estate and promote membership opportunities
  • Uphold Harewood House Trust standards, policies and procedures
  • Contribute to departmental and charity-wide goals
  • Undertake additional duties as reasonably required by management
