About the Role
Groam House Museum is an independent charitable museum based in the historic village of Rosemarkie on the Black Isle, Highland. The museum holds collections of national significance, including outstanding Pictish sculptured stones (notably the Rosemarkie cross-slab) and the George Bain Collection, alongside a rich local history collection spanning the Bronze Age to the 20th century.
The museum plays an important role in interpreting the heritage of the Black Isle and connecting local communities and visitors with the area’s deep history, art, andcreativity. It offers a calm, welcoming visitor experience and works closely with volunteers, partners, and supporters to care for its collections and develop its public programme.
Where the Museum Is Now
Groam House Museum is entering an important period of development and capacity building.
Over the coming period, the museum aims to:
- strengthen organisational resilience and governance
- prepare for a feasibility study exploring future development options
- consider accessibility improvements and long-term sustainability
- grow audiences, partnerships, and income in a measured, values-led way
This is a moment where trustees can genuinely shape direction, not simply maintain the status quo.
