Trustee (Finance) The Position Location: Remote (UK-based) Type: Volunteer (reasonable expenses covered) Time commitment: Approx. 4 Board meetings per year plus board prep + ad hoc support Term: Three years (renewable) About Just Like Us Just Like Us is the LGBT+ young people’s charity. Founded in 2016, we work with primary schools, secondary schools and sixth form colleges across the UK to improve the lives of LGBT+ young people. To do that, we run these unique programmes: ● Ambassador programme: Our Ambassador Programme is a volunteering opportunity for LGBT+ young people aged 18-25. We support them to use their voice in schools and in the media, to develop their skills and to find a sense of community ● School talks: Secondary schools can book a talk from our ambassadors. Visiting schools in-person or live through an online platform, they share their personal experiences, talk about allyship and answer questions ● Pride Groups: This free programme supports schools to run safe and fun spaces for LGBT+ young people and their allies at lunchtime or after school ● Curriculum Resource Portal: With over 6,500+ primary and secondary schools signed up to our free resource portal across the UK, we have hundreds of resources for all subjects and key stages ● School Diversity Week: School Diversity Week is our annual celebration of LGBT+ inclusion in education, this year running on 23 - 27 June 2025. We encourage schools to take up an activity and a whole school approach Role Overview We are seeking a new Trustee with strong financial acumen to join our Board of Trustees and provide strategic oversight and governance support. This role will act as the Board’s lead Trustee for financial oversight, safeguarding the financial health of the organisation, ensuring accountability, and supporting sustainable growth. We are particularly keen to hear from qualified accountants with experience in charity finance. Key Responsibilities ● Act as the Board’s lead Trustee for financial matters, supporting effective financial oversight and decision-making ● Provide strategic guidance and oversight on the financial matters of Just Like Us, including budgets, reporting, controls and compliance ● Review financial reports, budgets, cashflow forecasts, and the annual accounts ● Ensure that financial controls, risk management processes, and audit procedures are robust and compliant ● Support the Just Like Us CEO with expert advice, as needed ● Fulfil statutory responsibilities as a charity trustee under the Charity Commission’s regulations ● Champion good governance, ethical leadership, and the mission of Just Like Us Person specification Essential ● Professional qualification in accounting (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) ● Senior experience in finance, ideally with board-level or governance exposure ● Commitment to the values mission and goals of Just Like Us ● Strong communication and collaborative skills ● Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in governance Desirable ● Understanding of charity finance, SORP, and relevant UK charity regulations ● Experience as a trustee or non-executive director ● Familiarity with charity fundraising, grant reporting and donor relations Why join Just Like Us?
