TRUSTEE ROLE SPECIFICATION

Good Shepherd Services CIO is looking for trustees who can support and challenge so that we can better deliver on our charitable purpose.
As a Trustee you will be required to demonstrate:
Commitment to the organisation and its core values of Hospitality, Compassion and Respect.
Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort for Board meetings and committees, as well as occasionally online decision making between meetings.
Strategic vision.
Good, independent judgement.
Ability to think creatively.
Willingness to speak your mind.
Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of being a trustee in charity law.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
As well as the specifications outlined above you will have experience in at least one of the following:
Experience leading in the VCSE sector or health and social care.
Personal experience of the social harms we support people with i.e. homelessness, addiction, offending, mental health, and poverty.
Policy/legal expertise.
Human Resources.
Finance.
Your statutory duties as a Trustee will be:
To contribute actively to the Board of Trustee role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation.
To set overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
To ensure the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
□ To ensure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.
To ensure the organisation uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects: the charity must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are.
To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation.
