Trustees are our most senior leaders. They set our strategic direction, make sure we’re using our resources effectively and ensure we’re having the greatest possible impact on our community. We’re looking for dedicated, empathetic and ambitious candidates, people and our communities stronger and healthier through education, training and support for mental health and wellbeing. You will want to help make our mission a reality and lead us closer towards our ultimate ambition: a society where everyone experiencing a mental health prob lem gets both support and respect. The Treasurer will be a Trustee, who works in close cooperation with, and provides support and advice to, the Finance and Risk Subcommittee, the Chair of the Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive and the Head of Finance. Responsibilities The Treasurer will: • Guide and advise the Board in the approval of budgets, accounts, and financial statements, within a relevant policy framework. • Keep the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities. • Advise the Board on the financial implications of strategic plans and key assumptions included in management's operational plan and annual budget. • Confirm that the financial resources meet present and future needs. • Understand the accounting procedures and key internal controls, to be able to assure the Board of its financial integrity. • Ensure that the accounts are properly audited, that accepted recommendations of the auditors are implemented, and meet the auditor at least once a year. • Chair the Finance and Risk Subcommittee, meeting 4 -6 times a year. • Formally present the accounts at the annual meeting, drawing attention to important points. • Present the Finance and Risk Subcommittee report to the Board three times a year. 3 • Review the Reserves Policy annually and make recommendations to the Board. • Monitor investment activity and ensure its consistency with policies, aims, objectives and legal responsibilities: • Assess strategic risk and ensure effective management is in place, • Ensure that the strategic risk register is reviewed at least twice a year and kept up to date. Person Specification The Treasurer should have the following qualities: • Relevant financial management/accounting qualifications and/or experience. • Some experience of charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes or willingness to learn. • The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences. • Being prepared to make unpopular recommendations to the board. • A willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis. As a Trustee, you will receive: • Induction and training into the role. • Opportunities to develop new skills. • An annual appraisal to help support your development. • The position is not paid, but reasonable out -of-pocket expenses will be paid. Time commitment: The Treasurer role is voluntary, with expenses paid, with a commitment of approximately 6 hours per month. That time commitment includes: • Attendance at six board meetings per year and 4 Subcommittee meetings -6 Finance and Risk • Reading the papers beforehand • Policy review • Providing specialist advice in your area of knowledge 4 • Occasional board development, strategic planning and All Team (trustees, staff and volunteers) sessions (c 3 per year) • Essential training (eg safeguarding) (usually online) • Annual 1:1 review meeting with the Chair • Meetings of task and finish groups, sub you join -committee or special interest groups • Receptions and fund -raising events, annual national Mind conference Most meetings are offered online, though some need in -person attendance.
