was set up to do. They may be known by other titles, such as directors, board members,
governors, committee members. Whatever they are called, trustees are the people who
lead the charity and decide how it is run.” (The Charity Commission)

Treasurer Role Description

We are currently looking for a Treasurer, with the passion and energy necessary to work with
the Board of Trustees to  drive forward an established charity and social expertise, and to
support the CEO and senior team in the next phase of  development.

We are looking to enhance our Board of Trustees and welcome all applicants from all
backgrounds, particularly those representing groups that are currently underrepresented in our
organisation, such as women and people of global majority backgrounds (diversity & inclusion
statement).

Skills and experience:

Ideally a qualified accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA) with charity and/ or social enterprise
experience. Qualification by experience is also welcome.

Knowledge of Xero accounting software is ideal.

An in-depth understanding of accountancy and book-keeping with an ability to produce,
summarise and analyse financial reporting.

Responsibilities:

●  review and approve the Bike for Good monthly management accounts as produced by

the Finance Manager

●  chair the monthly Finance Sub-Group of the Board, working with the Finance

Manager, CEO and Department Managers to analyse budgetary variances and
financially impacting issues

●  Provide guidance to the CEO, Finance Manager & Department Managers around the

following areas:
-preparation of the annual budget; preparation of the rolling cash flow projections;

preparation of year end accounts to be filed with Companies House & OSCR; issues and
questions relating to PAYE, HMRC, VAT and other statutory obligations

Commitment
The time commitment for this position is approximately 5- 10 hours per month, with a

minimum term of three years.

Currently Board meetings are held for 1.5 hours monthly with two virtual and one in-person

meeting per quarter.

The role of Treasurer would require the added commitment of Charing the Finance

Sub-Committee which would meet at a minimum of once a quarter. Typically this meeting

is virtual.

The role may also require ad hoc support and guidance to the Finance Manager and team.

Recruitment Process:

1.  Application reviews

2.  Interview with Interim CEO, Finance Manager and Chair

3.  Second Informal meeting with Staff team - optional

4.  Opportunity to join a Board meeting as an observer

Bike for Good will take up two references for successful candidates.

Appointment is subject to the agreement of the existing Trustees

A handover will be arranged with the current Treasurer and/or Chair.

An induction with the Interim CEO will be arranged before the first Board Meeting as

Treasurer.

Notes on who is eligible/ineligible to become a Charity Trustee, e.g. Under section 69

of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, the following are

disqualified from acting as charity trustees, e.g.:

●

 Someone with an unspent conviction for dishonesty or an offence under the

Act

●

 An undischarged bankrupt

●

 Someone who has been removed under either Scottish or English Law or the

courts from being a charity trustee

●

 A person disqualified from being a company director
