Glasgow College UESTC invites dedicated and ambitious academics to contribute to a leading transnational education partnership between the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) and the University of Glasgow (UofG), located in the western technology hub of China, Chengdu. Established in 2013, Glasgow College UESTC has become a national benchmark for high-quality transnational education. We are now expanding our academic team to support our next phase of growth.
Successful candidates will be expected to be based full‑time at the College’s Chengdu campus in China.

Your role and our commitment
We seek talented academics from the domains of Information and Communications Technology, Microelectronics and Computer Science. We have positions available at all levels: tenure-track Assistant Professor, tenure-track Associate Professor, tenured Associate Professor, Full Professor, and Eminent Professor.
Your primary responsibilities to Glasgow College UESTC will be to:
* Contribute to the high‑quality delivery, development and innovation of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the College.
* Support student learning and academic development within an international education environment.
* Contribute to the leadership, management and quality assurance activities that underpin the College’s excellence.
UESTC’s research expectations
Academic staff appointed to these roles are expected to conduct cutting edge research under the auspices and governance of UESTC. You will work within one of China’s highest‑performing research environments. UESTC is ranked 4th in the world for Electrical & Electronic Engineering, 3rd in Artificial Intelligence, and 15th in Computer Science, according to the 2025 U.S. News Best Global Universities subject rankings.

Job Purpose
To inspire and develop students through outstanding teaching and mentorship; to advance knowledge through high-impact research conducted within UESTC’s world-class research environment; and to provide academic insights and leadership that enhance Glasgow College’s educational mission, operational excellence, and global reputation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities1. Teaching and supervision
1.1 Design and deliver high quality teaching through lectures, seminars, tutorials and practical classes.
1.2 Contribute to the assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses across the College and the provision of feedback to students.
1.3 Contribute to the leadership, management and administration of our degrees, commensurate with your standing within the College.
1.4 Supervise undergraduate and taught Masters projects, providing students with high-quality academic support and guidance.
1.5 Play a leading role in enhancing intellectual understanding and innovation in your field of teaching expertise and, in so doing, enhance course design and delivery, assessment and feedback.
2. Research (under UESTC only)
Conduct high-quality research under UESTC’s governance, infrastructure, and research frameworks by:
2.1 Establishing and sustaining a track record of independent and collaborative publications in international peer-reviewed journals/conferences.
2.2 Delivering research that results in economic and/or societal benefits.
2.3 Presenting research at Chinese and international conferences, seminars, workshops, and colloquia.
2.4 Identifying funding opportunities and preparing proposals to secure support from external bodies for your research.
2.5 Developing and maintaining collaborations with colleagues and external academic or industrial partners.
2.6 Supervising Master/PhD students and contributing to research team / group meetings / seminars / workshops and activities that enhance the wider knowledge, outputs and culture within UESTC.
3. Academic leadership
3.1 Contribute to the management, organisation and continuous improvement of the College’s academic activities and operations, consistent with the strategic plans of UESTC and UofG.
3.2 Support initiatives that enhance the College’s international profile and strategic development.
3.3 Conduct all work in a professional, ethical and culturally sensitive manner, respecting the laws, customs and standards of both China and the UK.
4. Other
4.1. Undertake any other reasonable duties assigned by the College leadership team.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Applicants must meet all essential criteria (Section A). They must also satisfy the role‑specific criteria for the relevant position (e.g., A+B, A+C).
Essential:
A1. A PhD or equivalent degree from a renowned university with a strong presence in the QS, THE, or USNEWS world university rankings, and a growing reputation for scholarship within your subject area.
A2. Excellent English proficiency, with the ability to teach undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses in a fully English-medium environment.
A3. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts and data clearly and concisely in English.
A4. The ability, drive and influence to develop and sustain an international research profile, conducting all research within UESTC’s research governance framework.
A5. Excellent interpersonal skills and a collegial approach, contributing positively to the academic communities of Glasgow College and UESTC.
A6. Strong organisational skills, including effective workload, time, project and budget management.
A7. Strong IT proficiency and advanced skills in data analysis and interpretation.
A8. Strong influencing and collaboration skills, enabling engagement with the wider academic and research community and contributing to the shaping of research and funding agendas.
Desirable:
A9. A basic knowledge of Chinese language and/or the interest and willingness to learn the language.
A10. A recognised HE teaching qualification, such as the PgCAP of the PgCHE.
Our tenure‑track positions are fixed‑term appointments with defined expectations for progression toward tenure. Tenured positions represent established academic appointments and are awarded based on evidence of sustained excellence in research, teaching, and academic leadership. Specific qualifications for each level are outlined below.
Assistant Professor (Tenure-track)For early‑career researchers with emerging potential
B1. A strong commitment to high-quality, research-informed, student-centred teaching, with the ability to inspire students, engage diverse learners, and provide effective academic and pastoral support.
B2. An established track record of publications and presentations, demonstrating clear potential for future independent academic development.
B3. Demonstrated research creativity and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
B4. Evidence of independent research and track record of applying for, and securing, competitive grant applications.
Associate Professor (Tenure-track)For established researchers progressing towards tenure.
C1. A substantial and developing track record of high-quality teaching, with experience in curriculum design, assessment, and enhancing student learning at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
C2. A substantial track record of significant and original research contributions, demonstrating emerging intellectual leadership.
C3. Proven ability to undertake independent research with an established track record of successful funding applications.
C4. Demonstrated ability to contribute meaningfully to successful research funding applications, with emerging experience in co‑leading proposals.
C5. Typically a minimum three years of relevant postdoctoral or academic experience.
Associate Professor (Tenured)For mature, independent researchers with clear sustained performance.
D1. A strong and consistent record of high-quality teaching, including contributions to curriculum development, pedagogical enhancement, and student success at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
D2. A substantial track record of publishing high-quality research outputs in reputable international journals.
D3. A strong and sustained record of securing external research funding as a principal or co‑investigator.
D4. A proven record of contributing to academic administration, programme development, or committee leadership in a research-intensive environment.
D5. Typically six or more years of relevant experience in a world-class university or research institute setting.
Full Professor (Tenured)For disciplinary leaders with sustained international distinction.
E1. A strong and consistent record of high-quality teaching, including contributions to curriculum development, pedagogical enhancement, and student success at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
E2. A distinguished record of groundbreaking research with major international visibility and impact, demonstrating the ability to lead and shape disciplinary development.
E3. A strong track record securing major research funding and leading research themes.
E4. Typically nine or more years of relevant experience in a world-class university or research institute setting.
Eminent Professor (Tenured)For world‑leading scholars at the very top of their fields.
F1. Recipient of a world-renowned academic award or an elected Fellow of a prestigious national or international academy.
F2. A sustained record of exceptional scholarly leadership and influence, advancing the discipline at a global level.

Terms and Conditions
This is a full-time job based in China. You will be employed by UESTC. All terms of the appointment, including remuneration and conditions of service, shall be governed by the prevailing employment laws of the People’s Republic of China and the institutional policies and regulations of UESTC.
For Tenure-track faculty: these are full-time, fixed-term appointments. Employment is offered on the basis of an initial three-year contract, which may be renewed for a second three-year term contingent upon successful performance review.
For Tenured faculty: these are full-time and open-ended appointments.
