Temporary Area Organiser
About this job
With new employment rights starting to come on stream, now is a great time to help UNISON to expand our collective presence in public service workplaces in Greater London and encourage people to join a union and get active.
UNISON is looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and resourceful individual to support and develop the people, systems and campaigns that deliver great workplace outcomes for our members.
The successful candidate will have experience of developing and delivering projects and campaigns and the skills to build and support a network of stewards and establish efficient systems for casework and representation.
About you
You will have excellent presentation and communication skills, both face-to-face and on paper. A sound understanding of trade unions and their objectives is essential along with a good understanding of UNISON’s objectives and a good knowledge of employment law.
The Greater London Region prides itself on its diverse membership. We aim to represent the entire public sector in our multicultural city. We support and encourage applications from underrepresented groups and those from Black, Asian and non-white backgrounds. UNISON uses ‘Black’ in a broad, inclusive sense to describe people who face racism in the UK, including people of African, Caribbean, Asian, Arab and other heritage.
The successful candidate will need to be good at prioritising multiple tasks and flexible in their approach. Reaching members in some public services can be challenging during “office hours” so the successful candidate may be required to work in the evening, early mornings and occasionally at weekends. UNISON has a range of policies to support a healthy work/life balance.
You will need to be able to travel in and around our London region (inside the M25).
