Technical Architect

Our vision is for safe and effective nursing and midwifery practice across the four countries of the UK – regulated and supported by the NMC – a fit for the future organisation, with fairness and equity at the heart of everything we do.

Our role is to protect the public and maintain confidence in the nursing and midwifery professions. As the largest independent regulator in Europe of more than 860,000 nursing and midwifery professionals, we have a crucial role in making this a reality.

We do this by setting and promoting high education and professional standards for all future and registered nurses and midwives in the UK and nursing associates in England.

We also ensure every nurse, midwife and nursing associate on our Register meets clear standards of conduct and practice which protects the public and the reputation of our professions.

We have a duty to investigate concerns and to take steps to protect the public in the relatively rare instances where we need to limit or restrict a nurse, midwife or nursing associate’s right to practise.

We are building a new NMC with integrity, fairness, respect, equity and effectiveness at its core.

We are determined to improve and modernise our culture and ways of working. This will ensure that the public and professionals feel confident in our work.

About the team and what we do

The Digital Services Team sits within the NMC’s Information Technology department and is responsible for delivering the digital platforms and technology solutions that support the NMC’s role as a regulator. Our work enables safe, effective services and high-quality decision-making across the organisation.

This role sits within the architecture function and works closely with the Enterprise Architect, the Power Platform and analysis teams, and colleagues across Data and Technology Services. You’ll also collaborate with external Microsoft implementation partners to design and deliver solutions that are secure, scalable and aligned with our enterprise architecture standards.

As a team, we focus on strong technical design, clear standards and collaborative working, ensuring our Microsoft Power Platform continues to evolve in line with organisational priorities.

Your role and impact

As a Technical Architect, you’ll be responsible for shaping the technical architecture of new solutions and enhancements built on the NMC’s Microsoft Power Platform. You’ll analyse business and technical requirements, identify appropriate solution options, and translate complex technical challenges into clear, implementable designs.

You’ll produce high-quality technical documentation and architecture diagrams to guide internal teams and external delivery partners through build and implementation. You’ll also play a key role in identifying technical risks, advising stakeholders on potential impacts, and recommending approaches that balance security, scalability and usability.

Throughout delivery, you’ll work closely with solution architects and delivery teams to monitor progress, troubleshoot issues and ensure that solutions integrate effectively with the wider technology landscape. Your work will directly support the delivery of robust, user-centred systems that enable the NMC to meet its regulatory responsibilities.

What you’ll bring

What you’ll bring

You’ll bring strong experience designing and delivering technical solutions within the Microsoft Power Platform and D365 ecosystem, alongside the confidence to engage with complex integration and security considerations. You’re comfortable working across legacy and modern platforms and enjoy solving challenging technical problems.

You’ll be a clear communicator who can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decisions through well-reasoned advice. You take a structured, methodical approach to design and delivery, while remaining flexible and pragmatic when navigating competing priorities.

Above all, you’ll bring a collaborative mindset and a commitment to high-quality outcomes, aligning your work with the NMC’s values and purpose while helping to shape a modern, resilient technology platform for the organisation.
