Background

Lived Experience Recovery Organisations (LEROs) are led by people with lived experience of substance use related harms, for the benefit of the recovery community and the wider community. Working with people with lived and living experience is a key priority in the North Yorkshire Substance Use Strategy 2024-2028.

North Yorkshire Connected Spaces has been delivered since late 2023 by Red Rose Recovery, firstly in Harrogate, then expanded into Northallerton in early 2025. The overarching vision for North Yorkshire Connected Spaces is to:

  • Be independent.
  • Work with the specialist treatment provider, North Yorkshire Horizons to embed the voice of lived and living experience into service design and delivery.
  • Reduce stigma faced by those with lived and living experience of substance use harms.
  • Make recovery visible and provide meaningful activities for those who may otherwise struggle to find recovery or feel it is achievable.
  • Represent the voice of people with lived and living experience to support with decision-making at a strategic level.

Job Summary:

The Team Leader will:

  • Lead the development of North Yorkshire Connected Spaces in line with service specifications and the annual delivery plan, working closely with RRR colleagues, commissioners and partners.
  • Manage and lead a mixed team of paid staff and volunteers, providing regular supervision and appraisals.
  • Have a detailed understanding of addiction, recovery and mental health issues. Also have an understanding of associated issues such as criminal justice pathway, trauma, sexual abuse and domestic abuse.
  • Ensure that there are sufficient groups and projects for members and volunteers to participate in, meeting local needs. These will be a mix of face-to-face and online activities. To facilitate delivery of these groups whenever required
  • Be an active member of North Yorkshire Connected Spaces Forum’s, leading arrangements and delivery. Promote Forums wherever possible.
  • Liaise with partner agencies, stakeholders and commissioners to ensure that there are referral pathways into North Yorkshire Connected Spaces and signposting and referral pathways out of North Yorkshire Connected Spaces. This will include a close working relationship with the specialist adult drug and alcohol treatment provider North Yorkshire Horizons.
  • Lead on the recruitment and development of volunteers in North Yorkshire
  • Promote visible recovery and encourage both clinical treatment and community based mutual-aid, using asset-based approaches.
  • Input, collate, evaluate and analyse data, using our VIEWS database. Produce case studies and testimonials from clients. Prepare and deliver written and oral reports and presentations for both internal and external audiences.
  • Manage safeguarding incidents in line with government legislation, and North Yorkshire Council and RRR policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate empathy and a non-judgemental attitude towards all individuals, maintaining confidentiality in line with RRR policies and procedures.
  • Manage budget and petty cash.
