Teaching Assistant (Years 3 and 4)
Westminster Under School is a friendly and welcoming place to work, with a real sense of community. Staff members quickly become part of the rhythm of life, both inside and outside the classroom. Social events are regular and varied, with plenty of opportunities to socialise outside working hours. All are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending a concert or a sports fixture.
It is a particularly exciting and significant time to be joining Westminster. As part of Westminster Under School and Westminster School’s move to become fully co-educational, girls will be joining the Under School for the first time in September 2026, at the 7+ and 11+ entry points, and a brand new pre-prep will open for boys and girls at the 4+ entry point. In 2028, girls will be joining at 13+ at Westminster School.
The role
Westminster Under School is looking for a bright and caring Teaching Assistant to help with the pastoral and academic development of pupils. The postholder will be part of a team supporting three Year 3 co-educational forms and two Year 4 all-boy forms. The Year 3 cohort will be among the first co-educational year groups in what has historically been a boys’ school. This role will, therefore, play an important part in helping to foster a positive, inclusive and supportive classroom environment as the School welcomes girls and further develops its co-educational culture. The Teaching Assistant will help teachers with lesson preparation and provide extra support for pupils, both individually and within small groups. Outside of lessons, they will supervise pupils at break and lunch times and on educational visits. They will also fulfil a range of administrative tasks, such as creating displays and preparing inspiring and engaging resources.
Applicants should have an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience in education, childcare, or a related field. The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator who has the ability to build relationships with pupils and staff, and who has a caring, patient and supportive approach to working with children. Strong organisational, time management and administration skills are integral to the role. The ideal candidate is someone who is willing to contribute to wider school life, including trips, events, and productions, and who enjoys working with children.
This is a permanent, full-time, term-time only role. The salary is £25,124.62 (actual), equating to a full-time equivalent of £33,548.76 per annum.
