       Teaching Assistant

Main Purpose of the Post

To work collaboratively with teaching staff to uphold the school’s high standards of care, whilst
supporting pupils’ access to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Support for the Pupils

•  To support pupil’s development within a safe, secure, nurturing environment
•  Promote the health, safety and wellbeing of pupils at all times
•  Meet the needs of the pupils whilst encouraging independence
•  Encourage inclusion in the classroom, supporting pupils to participate fully in classroom

and school life

•  Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities
•  Assist in the supervision of pupils on outings and visits, including at times residentials
•  Support pupils during mealtimes, promoting good manners and independence
•  Support children in using ICT and helping them to develop their independence and

knowledge

•  Providing 1-1 or small group support and interventions
•  Promoting positive behaviours

2.  Support for Teachers

•  Liaise with teachers regarding the daily, weekly programme of activities and events
•  Assist in the implementation of lesson plans, preparation of resources and materials for

the class

•  Support pupil record keeping
•  Flexibility in providing help where needed
•  Working alongside teaching staff to assess children’s needs and progress
•  Attending appropriate staff meetings when required
•  Assisting in the general supervision of pupils during breaktimes

3. Other duties

•  Undertake other duties of an appropriate level and nature as and when requested

Key Accountabilities & Relationships

•  Reports to:   Prep School/Senior School Lead TA
•  Works with:   Pupils, staff, parents/carers and external agencies as appropriate

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Selection decisions will be based on the criteria outlined in this form.  At each stage of the process an
assessment will be made by the appointment panel to determine how far the criteria have been met.

Experience & Knowledge
Working with or caring for children, preferably in a school setting
Working in an independent school setting
Supporting children with SEND
Delivering specific interventions (e.g reading, writing, numeracy)
Awareness of equity and inclusion principles
Ability to use technology e.g. tablets and interactive whiteboards
Understanding of safeguarding (training will be provided for all
candidates)
Understanding of National Curriculum

Qualifications
GCSE A*-C/9-4
High standard of spoken and written English
NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent
First Aid/Paediatric First Aid (training provided if not held)
