Purpose of the Role

The Teaching Assistant supports the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning within Coram House, working closely with class teachers to ensure that all pupils are able to access the curriculum, feel supported and make strong progress.

The role is central to promoting engagement, independence and wellbeing, helping pupils to develop academically, socially and emotionally within a nurturing and inclusive environment. The Teaching Assistant contributes to a calm, purposeful classroom culture and supports pupils to become confident, resilient learners.

We are seeking a number of Teaching Assistants to join us in September 2026. Some of these will be dedicated to work with specific students in line with their EHCP, others will support a wider range of students across Coram House.

Departmental Information

Coram House is the prep school within Ackworth, offering a broad and engaging curriculum underpinned by high academic and pastoral expectations. Main tasks and responsibilities

Supporting Teaching and Learning

Work alongside the teacher to support high-quality classroom practice and ensure pupils remain engaged in learning.

• Deliver small-group and 1:1 support, adapting activities to meet individual needs.

Support pupils in developing key skills in literacy, numeracy and communication.

Use questioning, prompting and scaffolding to promote independent learning.

• Provide feedback to the teacher on pupil understanding and progress.

Pupil Development and Wellbeing

Support the social and emotional development of pupils, helping them to build confidence, resilience and positive relationships.

Promote positive behaviour, working with the teacher to implement consistent expectations and routines.

Provide pastoral support, including responding to pupils who may be upset, anxious or require reassurance.

• Ensure pupils feel safe, valued and included in all aspects of school life.

Supporting Inclusion and Engagement

Help adapt learning to ensure all pupils, including those with additional needs, can access the curriculum.

Encourage participation and engagement for all learners, including those who may find learning or social interaction challenging.

Support pupils in developing independence while offering appropriate guidance and reassurance.

Classroom Organisation and Resources

• Assist with the preparation and organisation of learning materials and classroom resources.

• Support the creation of a well-organised, stimulating learning environment,

• Maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment.

Assessment and Feedback

• Observe pupils and contribute to the teacher’s understanding of progress and next steps.

• Provide regular, clear feedback to teachers on engagement, behaviour and learning.

• Support informal assessment activities where appropriate.

Wider School Contribution

• Supervise pupils during break times, transitions and wrap around care.

• Support educational visits, trips and extracurricular activities as required.

Contribute to the wider life of the school, including clubs or enrichment opportunities where appropriate.

Demonstrate flexibiity, including supporting other classes or covering TA absence when required.
Person Specification
Essential
• Relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience in an educational setting.
Desirable • Additional training in SEND, literacy, numeracy or child development.
• Supporting students with dyslexia.
• Experience in following and implementing EHCP outcomes.
