Title of post: Teacher of Science (Chemistry specialist preferred)

Relationships: Reporting to the Head of Science, the Science Teacher will engage with pupils, other staff, parents, Governors and external contacts.

Fundamental Task: To provide high-quality Science teaching, learning and assessment from Year 3 to Year 11.

Main Responsibilities: Will include but will not be limited to:

Teaching and Learning

Instil enthusiasm, curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of Science through engaging and inspiring teaching.

• Teach Science across KS3 and KS4.

Use a range of effective and adaptive teaching approaches to engage, challenge and support all pupils, responding to diverse learning needs and ensuring excellent progress, behaviour and wellbeing.

Maintain an attractive and stimulating classroom environment and contribute to displays in the whole school.

Be able to set clear targets, based on prior attainment, for pupils’ learning.

Use assessment data effectively to monitor progress, inform planning and secure strong outcomes for all pupils.

Make themselves aware of the school’s SEND Policy and procedures for identification, monitoring and supporting pupils with SEND.

• Communicate and co-operate with specialists from outside agencies.

Communicate regularly with pupils and parents regarding progress, attainment and next steps, including the preparation of written reports.

Teach throughout the school, delivering a broad, ambitious and stimulating curriculum that inspires intellectual curiosity and promotes high standards of achievement through engaging and appropriately differentiated teaching.

Develop, review and contribute to schemes of work, curriculum planning and the ongoing enhancement of the Science curriculum.

Create and share high-quality teaching and learning resources that support excellent classroom practice.

• Attend and contribute actively to departmental and whole-school meetings.

Engage fully with continuing professional development, maintaining and enhancing subject knowledge and professional practice.

Pastoral

Maintain good order and discipline amongst pupils, in accordance with the school's behaviour policy.

Taking part in the pastoral life of the school as a form tutor.

• Contributing to the PSHE programme.

Fulfil safeguarding responsibilities as outlined in the School’s Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy.

Extra Curricular

Contributing to the extra-curricular life of the school through the Enrichment Programme or other appropriate commitment.

Run/supervise at least one club or prep per week and such other activities as the Head shall consider necessary from time to time and as are within the Teacher’s reasonable capabilities.

General Duties

Duties will be reflective of the expectations of a Holme Grange teacher:

• Attend one school staff meeting each week as part of expected school commitments.

Provide supervision at agreed lunch, play, break times and gate duty as party of a rota to ensure adequate supervision and care of pupils at all times.

Work as an individual and as a member of a team with high professional standards.

Implement all agreed school policies and guidelines.

Provide a stimulating learning environment, where resources and learning can be accessed appropriately.

Keep up to date through reading and attending INSET courses and by developing links with sources of expertise outside the school.

Participate in the performance management system for the appraisal of their own performance.

Take steps to ensure current practice is continually improving.

Keep abreast of changes in education.

Support initiatives decided by the Headteacher and staff.

Implement all agreed school policies and guidelines.

Complete all tasks as reasonably required by senior leaders
