We are seeking a skilled, passionate, and caring Teacher of Physical Education (Male) to join our highly dedicated teaching staff, from September 2026, on a full time, permanent basis.

Sport is a vital and highly reputed aspect of our College’s overall educational provision, with both a curricular and a co-curricular profile. We promote a positive and inclusive experience for all students, and we also foster excellence at individual and team-level competitiveness.

Examinable Physical Education is taught at both GCSE and A Level. The ability to teach Physical Education at A Level in Sixth Form and at GCSE in Key Stage 4 is, therefore, essential.

This role includes responsibility for teaching PE across all Key Stages, leading boys’ sports teams, and organising and delivering a wide range of co-curricular sporting activities and fixtures. Our Senior School staff work closely with our Infant and Junior School staff, with some PE provision shared, as required.

Specific safeguarding responsibilities within this particular role require that the successful applicant will be male.

Applications from ECTs are welcome.

Our Physical Education Department:

Our Physical Education Department is a supportive, challenging and rewarding environment, committed to the provision of high-quality school sport for all pupils.

We are committed to creating and fostering an environment that creates a love of sport and physical activity that can be carried throughout pupils’ College life, and beyond.

The Physical Education Department has an outstanding record for its co-curricular performance and provision, rivalling local selective and ISA North private schools. The emphasis here at Abbey Gate College is on how pupils’ co-curricular involvement in sport contributes to their overall physical and mental wellbeing and achievement, enabling individual and team excellence, as well as providing enjoyment and developing collective effort. We offer a balanced and varied programme to suit all abilities.

Fixtures take place across a wide range of sports, and we offer a comprehensive co-curricular programme, with opportunities to compete in various sports at different levels, including both competitive matches and friendlies.

The Department benefits from a variety of superb facilities, enhanced by our wonderful location on a 20-acre site in the middle of beautiful countryside. Our Sports Hall consists of four badminton courts, which adapt to indoor netball / basketball courts. Our sports pavilion includes a teaching area and a small Technogym facility within. We also have a new all-weather sand-based hockey pitch, that also allows the delivery of a number of other sports.
