Job Description: Teacher of PE/Games

(Fixed Term for one year 2026/27)

Location:

Kingswood Preparatory School with some games and fixture responsibility in the senior school

Responsible to:

The Head and Deputy Head at Kingswood Preparatory School.

Job purpose:

•  To teach and support all designated classes in PE and Games and be able to coach a number of

our core sports to a high level.

•  To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated
curriculum for pupils and to support a designated curriculum area as appropriate.

•  To monitor and support the overall progress and development of pupils.
•  To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides pupils with the opportunity to

achieve their individual potential.

•  To contribute to raising standards of student attainment.
•  To be fully involved in all sporting Extra-Curricular Activities.
•  To contribute to all aspects of life in a lively and vibrant school, including the co-curricular

programme.

Key duties & responsibilities

•  To undertake a designated programme of teaching across all ages, including EYFS to Year 6, with

also some sports coaching at the Senior School.

•  To teach consistently high-quality PE and games lessons.
•  To plan, deliver and follow schemes of work and lessons that meet the requirements of the EYFS

– KS2 framework.

•  To promote the general progress and well-being of individual pupils, and to liaise with the

relevant pastoral leaders, if needed.

•  To alert the appropriate staff to any problems experienced by pupils.
•  To communicate with the parents of pupils, and with persons or bodies outside the school,

concerned with the welfare of individual pupils, after consultation with the appropriate staff.
•  To maintain discipline in accordance with the school procedures and to encourage good practice

with regard to punctuality, standards of work and homework.

•  To promote PE through the ECA/Activity programme.
•  To maintain appropriate records and to provide relevant accurate and up-to-date information

for ISAMS, registers and any other systems that the Foundation uses.

•  To complete the relevant documentation to assist in the tracking of students.

An Independent Co-educational Boarding and Day School for pupils aged 9 months to 11 years.

•  To undertake assessment of pupils as per curriculum areas and school procedures
•  To evaluate and monitor the progress of pupils and keep up-to-date pupil records as may be

required.

•  To contribute to the preparation of reports as required.
•  To keep abreast of changes in sporting regulations, rules and safety.
•  To recommend to the Head of Performance any pupils who should be considered for

representative trials.

It should be noted that this is not a definitive list; your duties will be at least those listed above.

You will be expected to:

•  Conduct yourself with professionalism, tact and diplomacy at all times as a representative of

Kingswood

•  Observe health and safety procedures and work safely at all times
•  To comply with all school policies and procedures including reporting any concerns to the
appropriate person in relation to those covering child protection, health, safety, welfare,
security, confidentiality and data protection.

•  Work closely and collaboratively with the Head of Performance, Head of Participation and the

Foundation Director of Sport

The ideal candidate

Essential Qualifications, experience and skills

You will have:

•  Graduate or equivalent level qualification or very significant experience of coaching
•  Teaching qualification
•  Ability to work independently and proactively and as part of a team
•  Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to interact appropriately with others within the

school community

•  Excellent understanding of school sports environments
•  Flair and creativity in lesson planning
•  Enthusiasm and energy; able to inspire and motivate the pupils to achieve and exceed their

own perceived boundaries
•  Highly organised and efficient

Desirable Qualifications, experience and skills

•  Academic teaching
•  Representative honours in one or more major sport
•  Experience in other sporting activities
•  Refereeing or umpiring ability
•  First aid qualification
•  Full driving licence
•  Minibus driving certificate
•
Life-saving qualification
