Job Description for Teacher of PE and Girls’ Games
The successful applicant will:
Enjoy working with young children (Reception to Year 6), be enthusiastic, promote the high profile of sport at Hornsby House School and encourage sport as a healthy, social, fun activity, helping the children to become lifelong participators.
▪ Promote and implement all aspects of school policy within their subject areas.
▪ Work enthusiastically towards the long term aims of the school.
Liaise with other staff teaching PE and games, particularly when team teaching.
Plan termly and weekly, write reports and attend parents’ evenings.
▪ Attend INSET courses to keep in touch with new ideas and initiatives.
▪ Take part in the Sports Tour and a residential trip as required.
Cover for absent colleagues.
▪ Take After School Clubs and fixtures up to three days per week until 5.15pm.
Promote the teaching of PE, dance, gymnastics and swimming with a view to teaching the skills, ensuring that lessons are accessible to all children.
Be vigilant in terms of health and safety and carry out risk assessments, where necessary.

Essential

Have a clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities in school
To be able to promote the well-being, health and happiness of the children in their class and any other assigned groups; foster positive self-esteem and hold high expectations of children’s work and behaviour
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and to be able to interact well with pupils, colleagues and parents
High levels of initiative, energy and readiness to work hard
