Applicants will preferably have the expertise to teach acrossthe full age range and ability groups, from Years 7–11. For suitable candidates, there may be A Level classes.The Mathematics Department is housed in its own suite of rooms, including a dedicated staff workspace. Each classroom isequipped with a touchscreen, and the department is well-resourced with teaching and learning materials. Students bring their owndevices and use Kerboodle, MyMaths, Sparx, ActiveLearn, and Integral A Level.The Schemes of Work are closely linked to the National Curriculum in Years 7–11, and students are placed in sets according toability as soon as they enter the Senior School in Year 7. Years 7 and 8 receive eight periods of 55 minutes of teaching perfortnight; Year 9 is taught for nine periods, and those in Years 10–11 are taught for seven periods. A Level Maths and FurtherMaths students are allocated 11 periods per fortnight. Students are regularly tested in all years, and their progress is closelymonitored. CAT4 (Cognitive Ability Test) scores and ALPS (A Level Performance Systems) are also used to assess and informfuture planning. The Ratcliffe College Mathematics Department is consistently in the top 10% of ALPS schools for adding value atGCSE and A Level.The Pearson Edexcel (1MA1) examination syllabus is followed at GCSE, and the vast majority of students take the Higher Tier. TheMathematics Department is the most successful in the school, regularly achieving close to 100% grades 9–4 at GCSE and onaverage, approximately half of the students gain a grade 7, 8, or 9. In addition to GCSE Mathematics, the top set is entered forAQA Level 2 Further Mathematics, where, on average, 60% of students achieve grades 9–7.The Pearson Edexcel course is followed at A Level for both Mathematics and Further Mathematics. The Mathematics Departmentachieves a 100% pass rate and averages 90% grades A*–B. Many students leave Ratcliffe to study Mathematics, or a relateddegree, at high-ranking universities.A House Mathematics Competition runs for Years 7–13, and all years enter the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT)National Mathematics Challenge. Students regularly qualify for the follow-on rounds. The school also enters teams for the Juniorand Senior UKMT Team competitions. Raising standards of students’ achievement and providing them with quality learning experiences are highly valued. In-servicetraining is acknowledged as an essential part of this process. All members of the department are expected to keep up to date withcurrent trends and are actively encouraged to attend relevant courses.
