Job Description: Teacher of Economics Location: Kingswood Senior School Responsible to: Head of Economics Start date: September 2026 Job Purpose • To teach Economics and Business at KS5 • To contribute to life in a busy day and boarding school, including tutoring and the co-curricular programme. The Department Economics is a very successful, well-regarded and extremely popular subjects at A level. For several years there have been at least three to four sets in both the Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth and a good number of our students continue with related studies at university. This is an exciting opportunity for an inspirational professional to join a growing and forward-looking department. Economics is a hardworking and successful department of five, including one experienced Edexcel examiner. It is also a closely collaborative and reflective department, continuingly implementing strategies to maximise the students’ learning of the subject. We seek to foster intellectual curiosity in Economics and its related disciplines. We aim to increase awareness of Economics throughout the school and pass on our passion for the subject to all those who study it. Opportunities to be involved in departmental development are encouraged and appropriate initiatives are welcomed. The department is well resourced with textbooks and ICT equipment enabling it to provide a dynamic teaching environment. The Syllabus The Department currently follows Edexcel’s Level 3 Advanced GCE in Economics A. The structure of this specification allows members of the department to share the delivery of both Year 1 and Year 2 content. Results The department has an excellent record of public examination success. In 2025 86% of A Level grades were at A*- B in our Sixth Form. Related Extra-Curricular Activities At present the department has a range of economic programmes in place for students at all levels, including the Economics Extension, Oxbridge support and the Economics Book Club. There are opportunities for the successful candidate to offer and develop activities based on their own interests and expertise. Key duties and responsibilities Increase students’ confidence in Economics and their understanding of the subject; • Share your enthusiasm for Economics with pupils and staff; • Have a collaborative approach to the planning of units of work; • Bring individuality and creativity to lesson planning; • • Foster a love of learning, and a love of Economics within students; • Be prepared to teach a full range of ages and ability, including preparing students for Oxbridge entry; • Develop independent learning skills within students; • Mark, record and monitor pupils’ work, in accordance with department policies; • Report on student progress, in line with reporting policies; • Attend Parents’ Evenings, as appropriate; • • Act professionally and in-line with the Teaching Standards at all times. Liaise with senior house staff about the pastoral care of pupils; Kingswood is an independent school which believes in promoting the broadest possible pupil development. You will be expected to: • Conduct yourself with professionalism, tact and diplomacy at all times as a representative of Kingswood • Observe health and safety procedures and work safely at all times • To comply with all school policies and procedures including reporting any concerns to the appropriate person in relation to those covering child protection, health, safety, welfare, security, confidentiality and data protection. The ideal candidate The successful candidate will be a well-qualified and committed teacher who is keen to communicate their enthusiasm for Economics and support and encourage pupils of a relatively broad ability range. This position would suit either an experienced teacher, an Early Career Teacher or someone new to teaching. We are looking to appoint for a full time position, but part time may be considered for the right candidate. We provide a comprehensive package of support and training to both ECTs and those new to the teaching profession, offering the opportunity to train to teach and gain QTS. The department embraces the best in modern approaches to teaching and learning and is constantly reviewing teaching materials in order to keep up to date with national and international economics news and developments, along with the latest developments in pedagogy.
