Job Title Date Department Reports to Teacher of Economics and Business Studies April 2026 Economics/Business Studies Head of Faculty Responsible for Teaching KS4 and KS5 Purpose of the Role Under the reasonable direction of the Headteacher, carry out the professional duties of a school teacher. Raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum area and monitor and support pupil progress. Be accountable for student progress and development within the subject area. Support the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for pupils studying in the department, in accordance with the school's aims and curricular policies. Departmental Information The Economics and Business Studies Department consists of two members of staff and is part of a wider Humanities Faculty. Business Studies is taught at GCSE (OCR) and at KS5 is moving to BTEC Business Studies. Economics (Edexcel) is taught at A level. There are enrichment trips throughout the year, and the department is active in developing cross curricula links with other departments within in the school and collaborate on ways to improve learning. We strive to develop independence and a creative approach to problem solving where possible. All teaching staff are form tutors. Main tasks and responsibilities Teaching and Learning • Support the implementation of the subject curriculum, and to be accountable for the development and delivery of all subjects or areas with the Department. • Consistently implement Quality First Teaching strategies to ensure that teaching is inclusive for all learners. • Strive towards achieving outstanding academic attainment and progress. • Support the creation and maintenance of an environment and a code of behaviour which promote and secure good teaching, effective learning, and high standards of achievement and behaviour. • Utilise systems for monitoring and evaluating pupils’ work, including both internal/external assessment procedures. • Make full professional use of analysis information and evaluate performance data provided • Engage with and support a thriving extracurricular life of the Department, allowing students to engage beyond the curriculum in ways that engage, excite and foster a love for the subject including running workshops, intervention activities, competitions, trips, open days, etc. • Embrace the use of new EdTech within the Department in line with Whole- School policies • Contribute to the Department displays with examples of student work to help further promote the Department Pupils • Track pupils’ progress using a range of indicators and respond to findings • Monitor pupils’ work and assessment and ensure the existence of resources which can be used for differentiated teaching. • Liaise with the SENDCo or Head of EAL over pupils with SEND and EAL. • Act as a Form Tutor under the direction of a year group Pastoral and Academic Lead (PAL). Curriculum • In conjunction with the Head of Faculty, determine and review the aims and objectives of the department. • Ensure the production and update of schemes of work which are in line with curriculum objectives of the department and the school • Seek out opportunities for curriculum enhancement. • Promote the subject as part of GCSE and Post 16 choices ensuring that it is a subject of choice and that the course syllabus remains engaging and relevant. • Be aware of academic and curricular changes affecting the subject and ensure that the Department is administratively and academically up-to-date • To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people. Person Specification Educational Attainment • A good degree from a recognised university in Economics and Business Studies (essential) • A post-graduate qualification in a related subject (desirable) • Recognised teaching qualification, such as PGCE or equivalent experience Experience, Knowledge and Skills Essential Desirable • Awareness of safeguarding requirements within a school that has boarding. • High level of IT literacy • Appreciate the needs of a boarding school • Evidence of the use of current and emerging technologies • Demonstrate evidence of structured continuous professional development • A track record of engagement in a range of extra-curricular activities • Thorough knowledge of the Business Studies and Economics Curriculum Involvement in extra-curricular activities • • A track record of excellence in the classroom with evidence of good results • The ability to work well in a team and one who strives for excellence and leads by example. • Good spoken and written English • Ability to communicate easily, both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences including pupils, parents and colleagues. • Excellent and effective classroom management skills • Be organised and self motivated, with a proven record for meeting deadlines and targets • Able to perform well and remain professional whilst under pressure • Display a smart and professional appearance, representing the School in a positive manner • Have empathy for the Quaker values of the school • Ability to maintain confidentiality Ackworth School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
