Teacher of Design Technology & Engineering – Part time 0.4FTE – The New Beacon
The New Beacon School is a leading day and boarding prep school for boys aged 2-13, with a co-educational nursery, renowned for its commitment to excellence in education, sport and the arts.
The School is seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Teacher of Design Technology & Engineering (DTE) from September 2026 on a part time basis (0.4FTE).
The successful candidate will be passionate about DTE and able to inspire enjoyment and enthusiasm for the subject amongst pupils. Teaching pupils in Years 7 and 8, they will seek to continuously raise standards of pupil achievement, ensuring that the DTE curriculum is delivered in an engaging way.
The department provides a breadth of technological, design, and real-world experiences, encouraging students to combine practical making skills with a deep understanding of materials and technical processes. From the early stages, boys are introduced to 3D problem-solving challenges, allowing them to think critically and develop solutions that address everyday needs. Using a variety of materials and cutting-edge technologies, such as computer-aided design and laser cutting, they learn to design and create products that showcase their ingenuity and practical skills.
Through a hands-on and collaborative approach, boys gain the confidence to think independently and work as part of a team. They are encouraged to explore how thoughtful design can shape the world around them, preparing them to contribute meaningfully to an increasingly technological society. By fostering creativity, critical thinking, and technical expertise, the DTE curriculum at The New Beacon equips boys with the skills to innovate and adapt in the modern world—living out the ethos that “the best way to predict the future is to design it.”
