TEACHER OF COMPUTER SCIENCE – AUTUMN 2026

To provide an exceptional, holistic and inclusive Quaker education, nurturing young
people to flourish and therefore play their part in creating a better world.

We like to think that teaching at Ackworth School is an incredibly rewarding experience,
and we seek individuals who aspire to deliver an outstanding education. Ackworth is an
all‑through day and boarding school for ages 2–18, academically non‑selective and
rooted in a strong Quaker ethos. Our pupils are one of our greatest strengths; visitors
frequently comment on their warmth, positivity, and enthusiasm for learning.

We are looking to appoint a part‑time (0.7) Teacher of Computer Science to join our
thriving Maths and Computer Science Faculty. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled
practitioner to teach Computer Science from KS3 to KS5, contributing to a dynamic
curriculum and supporting pupils in developing independence, creativity and
problem‑solving skills.

This is a single‑teacher department, supported by the Head of Faculty (Maths & Computer
Science). All lessons are delivered from our dedicated IT suite, with pupils having access to
their own devices. The department currently follows the OCR GCSE specification and
contributes to the development of continuity between the junior and senior school.

We are looking for someone who has a relevant degree and strong subject knowledge,
and who demonstrates excellence in the classroom with a proven track record of
achieving good results. The successful candidate will communicate effectively with pupils,
parents and colleagues, and will be highly organised, self‑motivated and committed to
meeting deadlines. They will be able to work well as part of a team, lead by example, and
show empathy for the Quaker ethos of the school while always maintaining professionalism
and confidentiality. Desirable experience includes involvement in extra‑curricular activities,
an understanding of safeguarding within a school that includes boarding, and experience
working in an inclusive educational environment.

In return we offer:

• a competitive salary (based on 34 teaching weeks) and generous fee remission

of up to 50% for the children of our staff.

• all food and refreshments during the working day.

• a supportive and friendly environment based on the Quaker ethos of the school.
• a committed parent community which plays an active part in the school.
• a beautiful working location in an ideal location within easy travelling distance of

the main centres of Sheffield, Leeds, Doncaster and York.

The working hours are 24.5 per week, Monday to Friday, term time only (34 weeks). The
salary range is on our teachers’ pay scale.
