The highly successful, thriving and popular Science department is seeking a new Biology teacher to join in September 2026.

The Science department has 11 laboratories at the main Tunbridge Wells campus and six further laboratories at the Sevenoaks campus. All are fully equipped for high-quality teaching and learning, and one laboratory is specialised for teaching A Level Chemistry. The Science department is supported by a team of five technicians.

At KS3, students follow an adapted and extended version of the Activate Science scheme and at GCSE we teach the AQA syllabus with all students studying separate Science GCSEs. Years 7–9 are taught general Science until Year 10 when Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught as separate subjects. Science at A Level continues to be a highly popular choice, with Biology numbers growing each year. At A Level Biology students follow the OCR specification.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the Science curriculum and how this can be taught in an inspiring way to maximise student engagement and success. They will be able to provide effective support to the Science department and steer areas of common interest and strategy across the department in order to enhance the quality of learning and achievement. Applications are welcome from experienced teachers and ECTs at this popular and over-subscribed boys’ grammar school with mixed Sixth Form.

Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys is one of the largest boys' grammar schools within the country. In late 2021, we benefited from a multi-million pound investment, which resulted in a brand-new sports building at our Tunbridge Wells campus and the opening of our Sevenoaks campus.

Staff benefit from a positive working environment, with strong support for professional development and specialist teaching rooms. We aim for high standards and the pursuit of academic excellence, helping every student to reach their full potential through the development of skills, concepts and knowledge, within the framework of a caring community. Relationships between staff and students are based on trust, mutual respect and a determination to succeed.

Please note that we will only accept CVs that are accompanied by an application form (see below). We shall review applications as we receive them  so apply early to avoid delay! We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role.
