This role will involve developing and delivering a robust Business Development Strategy for Vale of Clwyd Mind, that provides clear aims and objectives around generating unrestricted income through the sale of our services, initially External Training offers, Workplace Wellbeing and therapeutic services.
Supported Self-Help Practitioner (Children & Young People and Adults)

Vale of Clwyd Mind Association is a values-led mental health charity supporting people across Denbighshire to improve their mental health and wellbeing. The organisation delivers a range of community-based support services, groups and educational programmes, working in partnership with local communities and stakeholders to reduce isolation and promote recovery.
Purpose of the Role
This dual-focused role delivers Supported Self-Help / Active Monitoring interventions for Children and Young People (CYP) alongside educational mental health support sessions for adults.
For CYP, the postholder will deliver a guided self-help early intervention programme based in Rhyl High School, Prestatyn High School and The Buttermarket office, supporting young people experiencing early signs of mental distress such as anxiety, stress and low mood.
For adults, the postholder will deliver structured educational group sessions across Central and South Denbighshire, promoting mental health awareness, self-management skills and recovery.
Key Responsibilities
Children & Young People – Supported Self-Help (18 hours)
Service Delivery and Case Management
- Deliver Supported Self-Help / Active Monitoring interventions to children and young people within Rhyl High School, Prestatyn High School and The Buttermarket.
- Manage a caseload of CYP accessing early intervention mental health support.
- Deliver structured, guided self-help sessions aligned with the National Mind supported self-help model.
- Support CYP to understand their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, developing personalised self-help strategies.
- Use evidence-based, psycho-educational tools (CBT-informed approaches) to promote emotional regulation and resilience.
- Assess suitability for the service and identify when onward referral to higher-level support is required.
- Identify, manage and escalate safeguarding and risk concerns in line with organisational policies.
Partnership Working (CYP)
- Work collaboratively with school staff, pastoral teams and safeguarding leads.
- Maintain strong professional relationships with partner agencies supporting children and young people.
- Promote early intervention, emotional wellbeing and mental health awareness within school settings.
Adult Educational Support Sessions (6 hours)
Educational Group Delivery
- Lead on the delivery of small educational mental health group sessions for adults in Central and South Denbighshire with the assistance of a Mental Health Support Worker.
- Provide practical and emotional support to participants during sessions.
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Support engagement, participation and group cohesion.
Administration, Monitoring, and Reporting
- Maintain accurate, confidential records for both CYP and adult services.
- Complete monitoring and evaluation data in line with service level agreements.
- Manage own workload and administration to meet targets and deadlines.
- Provide timely reports and updates to the Services Manager.
- Support service evaluation and contribute to service improvement.
Professional Practice
- Work in line with Vale of Clwyd Mind Association’s policies, procedures, values and safeguarding frameworks.
- Promote principles of early intervention, recovery, social inclusion and equality of opportunity.
- Keep up to date with relevant mental health policy, evidence and best practice.

Person Specification
Essential – Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of 12 months’ experience delivering face-to-face support using social care or wellbeing skills.
- Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
- Experience supporting children and young people with mental health or emotional wellbeing needs.
- Experience delivering or supporting group-based work (CYP or adults).
Essential – Knowledge
- Understanding of early intervention and supported self-help approaches.
- Knowledge of mental health issues affecting children, young people and adults.
- Awareness of safeguarding, risk assessment and referral pathways.
Essential – Skills and Abilities

The Mental Health Support Worker will support people experiencing short- and long-term mental health challenges by assisting in the delivery of community support groups and small educational group sessions across Denbighshire. Working closely with the Senior Support Worker, Services Manager and Practitioners, the postholder will help create safe, inclusive and supportive environments that enable individuals to build confidence, skills and resilience on their recovery journey.
