We are committed to improving the lives of people with a learning disability by supporting and encouraging them in a creative way to access opportunities in their communities, take their place as citizens and reduce their reliance on services. https://generate-uk.org/ What Are Supported Internships Supported Internships are government-funded College/Employment programs specifically designed to facilitate the smooth transition of young individuals with Special Educational Needs into paid employment. Interns will have the amazing opportunity of being placed within operational businesses for an entire academic year, allowing them to acquire crucial employment skills through real-world work experiences. While working in the host business, interns will be fully supported by a dynamic team of job coaches and a tutor to assist them in developing their skills. Generate Opportunities has been at the forefront of delivering Supported Internships since 2018, collaborating with prestigious partners across multiple sites in London. Through our programs, we have achieved remarkable success in enhancing employment outcomes for young people with disabilities. We are now looking to build and expend on your success by growing our staff team and partnerships. Main Purpose of the Job We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Job Coaches for our Supported Internship program. As a Job Coach, your primary responsibility will be to provide personalized support to both the supported intern and the host business, enabling the young person to make a successful transition into paid employment. Working closely with the intern and the onsite team at the host business, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the intern's seamless integration and support throughout their working day. Your guidance and expertise will be instrumental in helping the intern develop essential employment skills and achieve positive progression towards their career goals. Detailed Responsibilities and Duties Duties will include but are not limited to: - ● Duties will include but are not limited to:- ● Supporting Interns in their workplace to perform all elements of their role to a high standard ● Support and empower the Interns in all aspects of their work ● Maintain confidentiality at all times ● Support Interns with Travel Training ● Mentoring and confidence building ● Learning the job role in readiness for training the intern ● Training the intern to proficiently learn and deliver tasks ● Breaking down tasks, applying systematic instruction techniques ● Modelling workplace behaviours ● Target-setting, and monitoring, and reviewing progress ● Encouraging intern self-assessment/reflection ● Producing visual or written aids and reminders (e.g. step-by-step task list) ● Re-phrasing or repeating employer instructions ● Trouble-shooting or advocating for the intern when things go wrong ● Identifying skills development needs and either addressing them or referring to other staff Identifying additional and/or more challenging tasks or roles that an intern could take on and relaying recommendations ● ● Suggesting appropriate ways to explain tasks, developing accessible resources of use to the wider workforce ● Ensuring interns are on task and meeting workplace standards and expectations (e.g. for time-keeping/attendance) ● Supporting interns in job searches and applications ● Supporting interns to develop CVs or revise them ● Helping interns prepare for interviews ● Reporting on progress to co-ordinator/manager ● Completing Feedback and other admin tasks General Responsibilities • To be an active member of the Generate staff team. • To comply with all relevant Generate policies, procedures and guidelines, including but not limited to Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, Children & Vulnerable Adults, and Confidentiality of Information. • To represent Generate positively in a variety of situations and respond professionally to general enquiries. • Although normal office/ retail/ hospitality sector hours will apply, the post holder must be flexible in his/her hours to meet the needs of Generate. • Keep records and report on outcomes of your work. • Keep up to date with current issues and good practice in the field of the Access to Work programme. • Engage with support offered by colleagues and undertake training as required. • Undertake any other reasonable task relevant to the work of the organisation that may be requested by the management team. Person Specifications Essential Criteria • A commitment to supporting young people with learning disabilities to develop independence and progress into employment. • Ability to physically support interns across all aspects of their workplace role when required, including demonstrating tasks, assisting with practical duties, and working alongside interns in active workplace environments. • Good communication skills and the ability to explain tasks clearly using simple language, modelling and practical demonstrations. • Ability to role model positive workplace behaviours, including professionalism, communication, teamwork, and appropriate conduct within the workplace. • Reliable, punctual and able to maintain consistent attendance, recognising the importance of stability and routine for interns and employer partners. • Ability to build positive relationships with interns, employers and colleagues. • Patient, encouraging and able to motivate individuals to achieve their goals. • Ability to break down tasks and support individuals to learn workplace skills step-by- step. • Organised and able to complete basic administration and record-keeping tasks. • Flexible and able to adapt support to meet the needs of different interns and workplaces. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work within safeguarding and professional boundaries. Desirable Criteria • Experience supporting people with learning disabilities, autism or additional needs. • Knowledge or experience of supported employment or supported internships. • Experience working in customer service, hospitality, retail or similar workplace environments. • Understanding of systematic instruction or other structured teaching approaches.
