St Catharine’s College is looking to recruit Summer School Assistants to support in the annual Asdan Seed International Summer School where Chinese students aged 16, and selected for their academic merit come to attend courses in the following areas:

Chemistry: 19 -17 July | 27  July - 4 August | 6 - 14 August

Biology: 19 - 27 July

Economics: 19 - 27 July

AI: 27 July - 4 August

Physics: 27 July - 4 August | 6 - 14 August

Maths: 6 - 14 August

Each course is made up of 5 days of teaching (9am to 5pm) at the end of which students are expected to deliver a presentation.

We are looking to recruit individuals who are organised, patient, imaginative, flexible and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Welcome students on their arrival to the UK and help them settle into their new surroundings.
  • Be the first point of contact for the students and provide a friendly and accessible basic level of pastoral care throughout the course, escalating matters to the Lead Assistant or Conference Manager when appropriate.
  • Accompany students to their daily classes (including teaching rooms at St Catharine’s, labs and field trips) as per the timetable.
  • Assist teachers where necessary.
  • Organise daily revision and social sessions after classes, these sessions are vital to the success of the programme.

Working arrangements and salary:

  • It is expected that the normal weekly hours of work will be 8am- 5pm (with 1 hour break) or 10am to 7pm (with 1 hour break).
  • Rate of pay is £12.71 per hour plus holiday pay.
  • You will receive one free meal per day from the College canteen.
  • College accommodation will be provided.
