Student Mental Health Advisor (Part-Time Position, 42 weeks per year)

As a Student Mental Health Advisor, you will provide specialist support to students experiencing a range of mental health and wellbeing difficulties, including those with complex needs or in crisis. You will undertake assessments, manage a caseload of students, develop support and safety plans, and work closely with academic colleagues, support services and external agencies to coordinate effective interventions that enable students to engage, progress and succeed in their studies.

The role involves supporting students through challenging periods of their university journey, providing advice and guidance, contributing to risk management and crisis response, and acting as a key point of contact for external health professionals where appropriate. You will also play an important role in promoting positive mental health across the University through awareness raising, early intervention initiatives, workshops and campaigns, while contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of wellbeing services, policies and practices.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary Wellbeing Team, you will help to create a supportive, inclusive and compassionate university environment, ensuring students have access to the support they need to achieve their academic and personal potential

Experience/Qualifications:

• Educated to degree level and hold a professional qualification in a relevant field. (Essential)

• Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), Registered Social Worker or equivalent professional background. (Essential)

• Current registration /accreditation with an appropriate professional body. (Desirable)

• Additional training or qualifications in risk assessment, suicide prevention, safeguarding, crisis intervention or mental health practice. (Desirable)
