These posts are only open to current Green Templeton College students who are continuing their studies from 2026 to 2027.

Main Purpose of Job

GTC Student Ambassadors will work closely with the College Office team to welcome and support new students to Green Templeton College from the beginning of September to 17 October 2026 by assisting with our registration, induction and welcome events and activities, helping us to ensure they are inclusive and accessible to all.

Key Tasks

GTC Student Ambassadors will be expected to be available for specific registration/induction welcome events for approx. 15-20 hours in total from mid-September until 17 October 2026. Successful candidates will also be required to attend two one-hour training/preparation sessions, held online in July and August.

  • Participate in inductions/tours (in-person) and Q&As (virtual) for groups of students which will follow an agreed plan and format, designed by the College Office team.
  • Be friendly, approachable and helpful in answering students’ questions, signposting to more specialist information within the college, as required, both face to face, virtual and by email.
  • Liaise proactively with the GCR and Junior Deans to promote welcome events and opportunities that have been organised by student groups.
  • Work collaboratively with all Student Ambassadors to ensure that key tasks are delivered and that our incoming students are offered and have the opportunity to experience, a warm, welcoming and informative start to the new academic year at GTC
  • Support the College Office team to prepare and distribute welcome materials, including handouts, student name badges (etc.) during in-person registration/fairs and welcome events
  • Organise in-person tours of the local area
  • Be available to lead College Tours as part of the College Inductions
  • Be friendly and helpful in answering students’ questions, signposting to more specialist
    information within the college, as required, both face to face, virtual and by email
  • Assist in registration/induction/welcome events including being available to mix with incoming students, acting as a first point of contact
  • Identify any welfare issues or concerns, signposting students onto appropriate services and liaising with the Welfare Dean, College Office, Senior Tutor or Junior Deans, as appropriate

Hours

An induction/welcome timetable is in the process of being scheduled which we envisage will be made up of mainly in-person events as outlined below, but may be subject to change. The schedule will be finalised at the Planning Meeting on Tuesday 25 August. Student Ambassadors will preferably be physically in Oxford from mid-September onwards and be available to work up to approximately 15-20 hours across the following events.

Some weekend/evening work may be required.

We expect approx. 15-20 hours work will be offered at the above events;

Additional hours may also be available, paid flexibly, around the above dates to welcome and support students moving in to their accommodation, the smooth-running of any additional welcome events and for other potential events which may be organised as part of the induction period. A rota and dates will be agreed at the meeting on Tuesday 25 August.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Willingness to commit to the specific times outlined above, being punctual and reliable for all required hours
  • Ability to relate and communicate professionally with Staff, Fellows, and Students
  • An enthusiasm for, and general knowledge of, the college and its students
  • Ability to communicate the key messages of the college tour with clarity and enthusiasm
  • Ability to be approachable, friendly, and willing to ‘make the first move’ in talking with students to ensure that everyone feels welcome
  • An understanding of confidentiality when dealing with sensitive or personal issues that might arise
  • Experience of working as part of a team

Desirable

  • Lived experience and/or interest or insight in supporting neurodivergent adults and/or adults with disabilities or long-term health conditions, and inclusive practice.

  • The initial meeting (see above) will outline our expectations for these roles

Remuneration

Student Ambassadors will be paid £14.79 per hour.
