Stories & Spaces Coordinator
Newbridge Memo is entering a new and exciting chapter. With our Memo: Inherit & Inspire programme, we are preserving and reimagining the lived heritage of the South Wales Valleys. We are looking for a creative, organised, and community-minded individual to lead this work as our Stories & Spaces Coordinator.
This role will bring to life stories from across generations – from miners’ recollections to contemporary creative voices – and support the development of an inclusive, community-led archive. The postholder will work closely with staff, volunteers, artists, and partners to deliver oral history projects, curate memory-based programming, and support interpretation throughout the Memo’s spaces and digital platforms.

Responsibilities
Memo Memories
• Coordinate and deliver the Memo Memories oral history and digital archive project.
• Support volunteers in collecting and recording intergenerational stories through interviews, workshops, and creative sessions.
• Liaise with community members, families, and schools to engage them in heritage-sharing activities.
• Work with the Digital Storytelling Consultant to shape and upload content to a new digital heritage platform
Memorial Garden
• Coordinate the heritage-led revival of the Memo’s Memorial Garden in collaboration with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• Support the design and implementation of heritage interpretation, reflective spaces, and outdoor storytelling features.
• Oversee volunteer activity in the garden, including horticultural tasks, planting sessions, and community use of the space.
• Ensure the garden reflects the Memo’s food heritage and supports sustainability, wellbeing, and intergenerational learning.
Community-Led Programming & Interpretation
• Co-create storytelling and heritage activities, including exhibitions, events, and memory-sharing sessions.
• Curate accessible interpretation throughout the Memo building and Memorial Garden.
• Collaborate with the Artist Development Programme to support heritage-informed creative commissions.
• Ensure all activity is inclusive and welcoming to underrepresented voices.
Volunteer Management & Training
• Working with the Volunteer Coach and Coordinator, recruit and train volunteers in oral history, archival practices, and storytelling techniques.
• Provide ongoing support and mentoring for volunteers engaging in heritage and digital activity.
• Develop clear systems for data, content permissions, and safeguarding procedures.
Administrative & Strategic
• Maintain accurate project records and support monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
• Contribute to the delivery of the Memo: Inherit & Inspire evaluation framework.
• Represent the Memo in heritage networks and partnerships.
• Promote community ownership and pride in local heritage through everyday work.
