AFC Bournemouth has an exciting opportunity to lead and supervise a team of stewards to ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all people present at the ground. The Supervisor is responsible for implementing the management's safety policies within their designated area and acting as a critical link in the chain of command between the stewards and the Control Room.
This role requires a satisfactory enhanced DBS check due to responsibilities involving children and adults at risk.
This role is seasonal and based on a casual worker agreement.
Shifts are normally 6 hours on a match day, as an example report time for a 15:00 kick off will be 11:00 with the finish time being between 17:45 and 18:00
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver cascade safety briefings to their assigned section of stewards, ensuring all staff understand their specific roles, the ground layout, and contingency plans.
- Monitor and reinforce the Stewards’ Code of Conduct, ensuring staff are polite, courteous and respectful
- Monitor crowd movements and densities within viewing areas to prevent overcrowding and identify potential hazards like trip hazards or fire risks.
- Oversee the free flow of spectators during ingress and egress, ensuring that gangways, vomitories, and exit routes remain unobstructed at all times.
- Serve as the first point of call for incidents or issues in their area, coordinating early action and reporting to the Control Room via radio.
- Implement contingency plans for various scenarios, such as fire alarms, medical incidents, or crowd disorder.
- Coordinate the emergency evacuation of all people in their area, including specific procedures for disabled spectators and children.
- Conduct pre-event inspections of structures, installations, and components (e.g., seats, barriers, and exit gates) within their area to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose.
- Ensure that any incidents, accidents, or ejections are accurately recorded on standard forms before finishing duty.
- Actively promote equality and inclusion, ensuring the needs of disabled spectators and those with protected characteristics are met.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Must hold a Level 3 spectator safety qualification.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, including a calm approach to difficult situations.
- A strong desire to work as part of a team to deliver a safe and enjoyable matchday.
- An understanding and ability to communicate verbal and written instructions in English; ability to deliver clear instructions under pressure.
