Sport Engagement Officer
Description
The Sports Engagement Officer is responsible for coordinating the delivery of student and staff engagement and active wellness initiatives within the Sport & Active Wellness (SAW) Directorate.
This includes delivering the Student and Staff Active programmes, supporting events and recruitment activities and creating and maintaining engaging content across multiple channels.
The post-holder will collect and analyse participation and survey data to inform improvements, drive inclusion and promote active wellness across the Oxford Brookes community, helping all students and staff to move, succeed and belong. This role is at the heart of our mission to help every member of the Oxford Brookes community move, succeed, and belong.
You will be responsible for helping to develop our Active Wellness Strategy, ensuring that sport and physical activity are accessible, engaging and inclusive for all students and staff.
Contract: Permanent, 37 hours per week Grade: 6 (£28,778 - £31,236)
Principal location of work: Headington Campus
About the Team
Sport & Active Wellness (SAW) is a newly formed Directorate responsible for delivering an outstanding and inclusive sporting experience for students, staff and the wider community. We bring together performance, participation, wellbeing and facility services to support all levels of activity. You will join a creative, fast-paced and supportive team that thrives on enterprising creativity and a shared “Generosity of Spirit” to enhance the student experience.
What will I be doing?
● Programme Delivery: Lead and champion the Student and Staff Active programmes, coordinating resources and supporting student volunteers.
● Insight & Evaluation: Design and analyse surveys and participation data to demonstrate impact and identify gaps in engagement.
● Inclusive Communication: Create and maintain vibrant content across social media, the website, app, and physical signage.
● Event Coordination: Act as operational lead for major engagement events, including Sports Fair, Varsity, Sports Awards, and Welcome Weeks.
● Stakeholder Collaboration: Build relationships with internal departments (e.g., Brookes Union, Resi Life) and external partners to champion active wellness.
● Content Creation: Produce targeted storytelling and digital assets (using Canva/Adobe) to celebrate success and grow participation.
● Compliance & Safety: Ensure all activities adhere to University branding, GDPR, safeguarding, and health and safety protocols.
What skills do I need?
● Education: Degree (or equivalent experience) in sport, communications, marketing, or a related field.
● Engagement Experience: Proven experience supporting or delivering engagement, participation, or wellness programmes.
● Digital Proficiency: Strong skills in digital content creation and social media management to engage diverse audiences.
● Project Management: Strong organisational skills with experience delivering events and campaigns to tight deadlines.
● Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
● Data Literacy: Ability to collect and analyse data, surveys, or engagement metrics to inform decision-making.
● EDI Knowledge: A strong understanding of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles.
● Desirable: Skills in Adobe Creative Suite, photography, or videography, and experience targeting campaigns to underrepresented groups.
