Our Pharmacy team at Nuffield Health Hospital Tunbridge Wells currently have an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist with a specialist interest in oncology and haematology.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacist with oncology experience to integrate with the Pharmacy team and oncology multi-disciplinary team to deliver an outstanding level of service to our oncology and haemato-oncology patients.

Approx. 0.8WTE of the role will be dedicated to the oncology pharmacy service, with patients currently being treated across 4 days per week. There is some flexibility in how the hours are worked across each day, but we are looking for a pharmacist who can be primarily site-based. Remote working is not suitable for this role. Our ambition is for the successful candidate to additionally support their Pharmacy colleagues through further training and competency assessments to create a multi-skilled Pharmacy workforce within the oncology service offering.

The remaining 0.2WTE of the role will be spent:

  • Planning and preparing for upcoming oncology patient treatments
  • Providing ward-based clinical pharmacy services to our elective surgical patients
  • Assisting our pharmacy dispensary colleagues with the dispensing and checking of discharge and outpatient prescriptions.

As a Specialist Oncology Pharmacist, you will:

  • Deliver a high-quality clinical pharmacy service within Nuffield Health Hospital Tunbridge Wells to oncology, haemato-oncology and elective surgical patients, in line with current government, NICE and BOPA guidelines

  • Undertake medicines reconciliation, organise discharge medications, provide of drug information and undertake clinical counselling of patients

  • Maintain pharmaceutical care plans for all oncology and haemato-oncology patients

  • Verify and screen SACT treatment prescriptions, inpatient prescription charts, discharge and outpatient prescriptions

  • Support and advise our clinicians on safe prescribing within oncology, haemato-oncology and peri-operative medicine

  • Coordinate the administration and delivery of SACT treatments to patients, maintaining effective communication with (and support to) the Pharmacy dispensary

  • Develop protocols and guidelines for SACT treatment

  • Order SACT in readiness for patient treatment

  • Educate and train colleagues in support of their development with oncology competencies

  • Act as lead oncology pharmacist for the Nuffield Tunbridge Wells Hospital site

  • Liaise with other Nuffield Hospital oncology sites to share knowledge and expertise

  • Work closely with the Pharmacy Quality Lead (Oncology) for Nuffield Health

  • Attend meetings with pharmacy and other oncology leads within the Nuffield Health group on a regular basis, implementing changes to policy and procedure locally

Skills & Experience

  • UK Registered Pharmacist with General Pharmaceutical Council - applications will be rejected without this

  • At least 3-4 years of post-qualification experience

  • Experience of supervising and training other staff

  • Post-qualification experience within oncology and haemato-oncology and the ability to screen and verify oncology and haemato-oncology regimes and prescriptions

  • BOPA passport completion to a minimum of Level 2a

  • Post-qualification experience in the provision of a ward-based clinical pharmacy service is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided

  • Knowledge of relevant NICE guidance, hospital policies and procedures

  • Excellent communication and people skills. This is essential as you will be working very closely with patients as well as a variety of clinical staff

Oncology pharmacy experience is essential for this role, and further training within this clinical speciality will be encouraged and supported.
