Job Description – Site Maintenance Officer

The Arkwright Society believes in creating a supportive, teamwork driven workplace,

charity which owns Cromford Mills and part of the Lumsdale Valley, Matlock –
focused on woodland management and the care of the former industrial ruins.

Cromford Mills is a large site with a visitor exhibition including the digital Arkwright
Experience, two cafes, retail and office tenants and a busy events and conferencing
programme throughout the year. We have an award-winning educational offer for
schools and a very enthusiastic and involved volunteer team, who help deliver the
visitor heritage offer.  All these activities create a beautiful, unique, and vibrant place
to work. The buildings are Grade I listed and the site is of international significance
as a key place within the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Full Time typically 9am – 5pm with some flexibility
and OOH required (fixed term 12 months with
possibility of extension).

37.5 hours per week over 7 days (rota basis)

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and responsible individual to join our team as a Site
Maintenance Operative. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring
the safety, security, and maintenance of Cromford Mills and our natural estate.   In
addition to the substantive role the individual will provide support for conferences
and events setup where required, handling deliveries, and responding to
emergencies as needed.

Key Duties

Site Maintenance and Operations

•  Complete planned and reactive maintenance on the site and grounds.  Tasks
include painting and decorating, basic plumbing, joinery and general repairs.
•  Conduct regular checks and maintenance at offsite locations within the natural

estate.  This includes the water courses which directly relate to the main
Cromford Mills site.

•  Support in response to emergency maintenance issues,
•  Proactive approach to identifying safety hazards, deterioration or damage,

reporting issues in a timely manner.

•  Able to assist with snow clearing, gritting and other adverse weather

conditions.

•  Attend to call outs during out of hours when required.

Health, Safety and Security

•  Ensure maintenance works are carried out in line with Health and Safety

policies and procedures.

•  Complete routine checks allocated to you in line with the required frequency

to ensure compliance.

•  Follow security procedures for the mill buildings and grounds, ensuring

general site safety, including unlocking and locking up duties.

•  Hold a complete set of site keys and register as an emergency key holder.
•  Work and liaise with external contractors to ensure work is completed

efficiently and in lie with safe working practices.

Site support

•  Waste management, ensuring the site is clean and tidy at all times, promoting

sustainability and waste disposal improvements.

•  Perform courier duties, including deliveries to tenants and where required,

cash handling.

•  Assist with the set up of room hires and events bookings
•  Support major events in terms of maintenance, parking and waste

management.

•  Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to complete maintenance tasks

while promoting safe working on site.

•  Attend relevant workshops or training sessions.

Requirements

Essential
Training, experience, qualifications
Experience  in  a  maintenance  building  role  with  the
experience  to  complete  a  wide  range  of  reactive  and
planned tasks.
Basic  IT  skills  such  as  email,  word  and  updating  work
records on Excel
Experience  with  routine
preventative maintenance.
A  full,  clean  driving  licence  as  the  role  involves  travel
between sites and offsite locations (please advise if you are
learning to drive)
Understanding of health and safety regulations

Knowledge and Skills
Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively
interact with staff, volunteers, tenants, contractors and
members of the public.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise

approach to maintenance tasks ensuring the safety of all
site visitors.

Ability to monitor building security and report concerns.
Ability to follow method statements and work safely to risk
assessments.
