We’re looking for an inspiring and commercially minded Shop Manager to lead our Sheringham store. This is more than a retail role — it’s an opportunity to turn donated goods into vital income that supports local people affected by cancer. As the face of the shop, you’ll create a welcoming space for customers and donors, lead a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, and ensure the shop thrives both financially and within the community.

At Big C, we live our values of Honesty, Respect, Trust, Empathy and Support — and we’re looking for a manager who brings those values to life every day.

About the role

Reporting to the Retail Operations Manager and Assistant Retail Operations Manager, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day management and ongoing development of the Sheringham shop.

You’ll lead and motivate staff and volunteers, drive sales and profitability in line with agreed budgets, and ensure the shop operates safely, efficiently and in line with Big C policies and procedures. Acting as an ambassador for the charity, you’ll also play a key role in strengthening community engagement, encouraging donations and promoting awareness of Big C’s work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day running and ongoing development of the shop, ensuring high standards of presentation, safety and customer service.
  • Achieve income targets and maximise profitability through strong commercial awareness, effective stock management and promotional activity.
  • Recruit, train, motivate and support staff and volunteers, conducting regular performance reviews and fostering a positive team culture.
  • Maximise the value of donations through effective sorting, pricing, display, stock rotation and development of Gift Aid.
  • Manage shop finances and controls, including daily banking, reporting and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Act as an ambassador for Big C within the local community, encouraging donations, building supporter relationships and promoting awareness of the charity’s work.
