Kids is looking for a friendly, approachable and enthusiastic SEND Group Practitioner to support our Early Years SEND Groups and school holiday activities for children aged 5–8 years and their families.

This is a flexible, sessional role, perfect if you have experience supporting children with disabilities or special educational needs — whether professionally or personally — and are looking to work around other commitments.

About the Role

You’ll work across Hull and the East Riding, helping to deliver engaging, inclusive and enjoyable group sessions during term time and school holidays. Alongside supporting children, you’ll also play a vital role in working with parents and carers to promote children’s development and wellbeing.

No two sessions are the same, but every one makes a real difference.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a SEND Group Practitioner, you will:

  • Support the Early Years Coordinator and Senior Practitioner to deliver stimulating and inclusive group learning experiences for pre-school children with SEND and their parents/carers.
  • Help deliver group leisure activities for children aged 5–8 years with additional needs and disabilities during school holidays.
  • Assist with session preparation, set-up and pack-down, including equipment, furniture and resources.
  • Take part in the physical aspects of the role, including working at a young child’s level and sitting on the floor for extended periods.
  • Support individual learning programmes and observe children’s development.
  • Record observations and share information with the Senior Practitioner and Coordinator.
  • Provide support, information and guidance to parents, carers and wider family members.
  • Share information about further learning and development opportunities for families.
  • Work in line with Kids’ policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health & safety, equality and diversity.
  • Communicate regularly with the Early Years Coordinator regarding your availability.

What We’re Looking For

Essential experience and qualities:

  • Experience working with young children with disabilities or special educational needs.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • A strong commitment to working in partnership with parents and carers.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Experience delivering play-based and developmental activities for children with SEND.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
  • Ability to travel to multiple session locations, including Family Hubs across Hull and the East Riding.

Knowledge and understanding:

  • Willingness to develop knowledge of issues affecting disabled children and their families.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Understanding of equality and diversity, with a genuine commitment to anti-oppressive practice.
  • Awareness of data protection guidelines and best practice.
