The Children’s Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 140 years. We deliver essential local services that provide safe, trusted support to children and young people during times of significant need.

This role sits within our Youth Impact domain, specifically our London and Bedfordshire team. The Service Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing Project Pathfinders; an exploitation programme funded by the Violence Exploitation Prevention Partnership [VEPP]. The role will manage and supervise two practitioners, ensuring they are supported to deliver safe, high quality and trauma informed practice. The project is in its second year of funding due to a successful pilot year.

This role will take a lead on maintaining existing relationships with key partners in Bedfordshire, and work to further embed referral pathways. The Service Manager will act as the main point of contact for referrals and partnership work, regularly attending multi-agency panels in the area. There will need to be a visible presence in Bedfordshire as part of this partnership work.

The role will also support Safe Practice Manager and Area Manager to work in partnership with the funder, and will work to maintain excellent communication lines to support the capacity and development of our work in Bedfordshire. There may be opportunities for additional hours and additional management/oversight as part of this growth.

The required skills and competencies for this role are:

  • Substantial experience, understanding and knowledge of working with young people and young adults subjected to exploitation and/or serious violence
  • Experience of managing, leading and supporting individual and teams who are dealing with complex and sensitive issues.
  • Ability to act creatively, think systemically and respond to new and challenging situations

The Children’s Society is committed to safeguarding and protecting the children and young people we work with. As such, all posts are subject to a safer recruitment process, which includes the disclosure of criminal records, vetting checks, and the provision of appropriate references. The number and type of references required may vary depending on the nature and responsibilities of the role, ensuring that each appointment is carefully assessed. We have a comprehensive range of policies and procedures in place to promote safeguarding and safer working practices across all areas of our organisation.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 8th March 2026.

We anticipate to receive a high number of applications for this role and we reserve the right to close the role should we receive enough suitable applications.

Interviews will be held w/c 16th March.
