Senior Support Worker (Lockswood Care & Wellbeing Centre)

Description

We are looking for a compassionate, experienced and proactive Senior Support Worker to join our Lockswood day care centre, which provides high-quality day services for older adults. This is a rewarding senior role in which you will support clients to live fulfilling, dignified lives while also providing hands-on leadership to the wider support team.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Client Support

  • Provide person-centred care and support to older adults attending the day centre in line with individual care plans.
  • Support clients with personal care, mobility, medication administration and daily living activities as required.
  • Plan, facilitate and lead meaningful activities tailored to clients’ interests, abilities and wellbeing — including those adapted for people living with dementia.
  • Use recognised dementia-friendly approaches (such as life story work, reminiscence, and sensory activities) to promote engagement and reduce anxiety or distress.
  • Build trusting relationships with clients, treating each person with dignity, respect and warmth.
  • Monitor clients’ physical and emotional wellbeing throughout the day, escalating any concerns promptly.

Leadership and Supervision

  • Act as a role model for support workers and volunteers, demonstrating best practice in dementia care and person-centred approaches.
  • Support the induction, mentoring and day-to-day supervision of support workers
  • Assist the Manager and Assistant Manager in organising rotas, delegating tasks and ensuring adequate staffing coverage as required.
  • Lead the team in the Assistant Manager’s absence ensuring safe and effective service delivery at all times.

Care Planning and Record Keeping

  • Contribute to the development, review, and updating of individual care plans and risk assessments.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in accordance with organisational policies and data protection legislation.
  • Liaise effectively with families, carers and social workers to ensure continuity of care.

Safeguarding

  • Act as a safeguarding champion within the team, promoting a culture of openness and vigilance.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to signs of abuse, neglect, or deterioration in wellbeing, following safeguarding procedures and reporting obligations.

Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to all health and safety policies, infection control procedures and food hygiene standards.
  • Assist in completing audits, incident reports, and quality improvement activities as directed.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), or working towards this.
  • Demonstrable experience working in a care setting with older adults, including people living with dementia.
  • Sound knowledge of dementia and its impact on individuals and families.
  • Experience of supporting or supervising others in a care environment.
  • Strong communication skills — verbal, written and interpersonal.
  • A patient, empathetic and reliable approach to care.
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team.

Desirable Requirements

  • A recognised dementia qualification
  • Experience facilitating therapeutic or recreational activities for people with dementia.
  • First Aid certificate.
  • Knowledge of CQC regulations and quality frameworks.
