At the British Red Cross, we are committed to helping people in crisis—whoever and wherever they are. Our Crisis Response and Community Resilience department plays a vital role in supporting individuals and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.

We are looking for a Senior Service Designer to join our team and help shape services that make a real difference to people’s lives during times of crisis.

As a Senior Service Designer, you will lead the design and improvement of services that support people affected by emergencies and disasters. You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues, partners, and people with lived experience to ensure our services are human-centred, inclusive, and effective.

Your work will involve:

  • Research & Insight: Gathering and analysing user needs through qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Design & Prototyping: Creating service blueprints, user journeys, and prototypes to test and refine ideas.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with operational teams, policy experts, and stakeholders to co-design solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Using feedback and data to iterate and enhance services for maximum impact.
  • Proven experience in service design, ideally within complex or crisis-related environments.
  • Strong skills in user research, journey mapping, and prototyping.
  • Ability to communicate design concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to inclusive design principles.
  • Familiarity with agile ways of working and design tools (e.g., Miro, Figma, or similar).
