About the role:
Sue Ryder is looking for a Senior Regional PR Officer to support the delivery of Sue Ryder’s regional PR activity across hospice and hub catchment areas in England.
As the Senior PR Officer you play a vital supporting role in the projects and activities that contribute to the wider success of the charity, with a particular focus on fundraising and healthcare stories.
You will ensure enquiries from the media are efficiently actioned and you will proactively spot media opportunities based on the news agenda (including when on-call).
About the role:
• Ensuring journalists receive effective and efficient support when contacting the press office
• Writing press releases, quotes, op-eds and other media assets to a standard that requires minimal edits
• Preparing media briefings for spokespeople and storytellers (people with lived experience of end-of-life care and grief) ahead of media interviews
• Supporting storytellers when working with the media and interviewing storytellers as required
• Supporting the Regional PR Manager with the delivery of key fundraising campaigns across the year. On some projects you will take the project lead role in the team
Essential:
• Have good attention to detail
• Have a good understanding of the media and how it works
• Have previous experience of media monitoring and evaluation platforms
• Be able to write stories for the media in different formats (press release, comments, op-eds) to a good standard
• Be able to communicate clearly (written and verbal) with colleagues, journalists and other members of the media
• Have a basic understanding of crisis and reputation management PR
Desirable:
• Be curious about the care and support we offer and how it can lead to media stories
• Be excited to learn about Sue Ryder and the people we support
