About the role

Queens’ College is seeking an experienced and qualified Senior Management Accountant to join our Finance Department.

This rare opportunity has arisen following the forthcoming retirement of a long-serving staff member after more than 25 years’ service with the College, providing a unique opportunity to join our Finance team.

The Finance Department reports to the Senior Bursar and supports the financial activities of the College: receiving and paying supplier invoices, raising invoices to third parties and sending bills to students, collecting income, and paying its staff and Fellows.

The team, currently comprising five permanent staff, is responsible for preparing the monthly management accounts and budget, and for forecasting the statutory accounts, ensuring that all accounting tasks are carried out in a timely and accurate manner. The team also provides general accounting support to the College and its members.

The Senior Management Accountant will support the Assistant Bursar in the production of timely monthly management accounts and provide an internal audit overview of all aspects of the College finances. The post holder will be expected to manage the demands of the post, dealing with issues as they arise in a professional and effective manner, while developing positive relationships within the team and other departments within the College. Working closely with the Assistant Bursar, the postholder will contribute to maintaining the integrity of financial information and ensuring that reporting requirements are met to a high standard.

The role requires a professional, organised and collaborative individual who can manage competing priorities, build effective relationships across the institution, and approach challenges with a practical and solutions-focused mindset. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, sound judgement, and a commitment to delivering high-quality financial information and support.

We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate the following essential skills and experience:

  • Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, ACA or CIMA or equivalent relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience in a Management Accountant or similar role.
  • Computer literate and advanced Excel skills.
  • Practical knowledge & experience of financial management.
  • Specific knowledge of accounting regulations and guidelines.

  • Charity SORP / FRS 10.
  • VAT regulations.
  • Professional & reliable.
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently.
  • Good interpersonal & communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly.
