About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and qualified Plumber or Gas Engineer to join our Maintenance team
You will play a key role in ensuring the University campus and its buildings are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe, professional, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
This is a varied, hands-on role requiring a flexible and proactive approach, with responsibilities spanning plumbing, heating, mechanical systems, and general building maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out plumbing, heating, and mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and repairs
- Respond to maintenance requests via the Helpdesk system
- Undertake planned preventative maintenance and compliance checks
- Perform water hygiene tasks, including Legionella monitoring and remedial works
- Conduct safety checks including fire doors, fire extinguishers, and general building inspections
- Assist with general maintenance tasks such as carpentry, painting, and minor repairs
- Prepare material schedules and report stock shortages
- Liaise with staff, students, and visitors to minimise disruption during works
- Support and work alongside the wider Estates team
- Supervise and chaperone external contractors on site
- Respond appropriately to emergencies (fire, flood, security incidents, etc.)
What We’re Looking For
- Time-served, qualified Plumber / Gas Engineer
- Strong experience in plumbing, heating systems, and general building maintenance
- Knowledge of health & safety regulations and compliance requirements
- Ability to carry out fault finding and problem solving independently
- Flexible, reliable, and customer-focused approach
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
