Citizens Advice offers confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person, for free. Through our national network of charities, we give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem.

Senior Events and Engagement Manager

We're looking for a creative Events Lead to join our team and design impactful experiences that bring together our national organisation and the network of local Citizens Advice charities. Through these events, you'll create opportunities for meaningful collaboration, helping colleagues across the service connect, learn from one another and work together to deliver our organisational missions.

As a large and distributed network, events are one of our most important channels for communication, engagement and collective action. In this role, you'll design experiences that strengthen relationships across the service, create space for shared learning and problem-solving, and support the development of a resilient network that can continue to meet the needs of the people who turn to us for help.

About the Role

This is a rare opportunity to take a creative approach to event production. We're looking for someone who can create meaningful event experiences that foster connection, collaboration and shared learning, both in person and online.

You'll lead our diverse events programme and deliver a collaborative events series that centres the voices of our clients and our network of Local Citizens Advice charities.

This role will see you delivering everything from small workshops to large-scale conferences, so you'll have experience producing events across a range of formats and scales. We're looking for someone who not only excels in event delivery and logistics, but is also a skilled facilitator, capable of designing and leading engaging, participatory experiences that bring people together and create meaningful impact for attendees.

We’re Looking for Someone Who:

  • Has experience producing events, from small group sessions to large-scale and complex productions.
  • Is confident working autonomously, taking ownership of decisions and bringing creativity, innovation and original thinking to their work.
  • Is a skilled facilitator, with experience designing and delivering engaging events that create inclusive and psychologically safe environments where participants feel comfortable sharing, learning and collaborating.
  • Understands how to bring people together through creative and engaging experiences that inspire connection, strengthen relationships and create opportunities for shared learning and collective action. This could be someone from an events, arts, community engagement or participation background.
  • Is passionate about audience engagement across a range of formats and believes in the power of participatory experiences to drive meaningful change.
  • Has a strategic mindset, while also enjoying the practical delivery and execution needed to bring great events to life.

This role offers significant scope for creativity, ownership and flexibility, with the opportunity to shape how people connect and collaborate across our service and to make a tangible contribution to the work we do.

Plese apply with your CV and Cover letter outlining how you meet the below criteria:

  1. Proven experience in building, managing, and nurturing communities, ideally within the nonprofit, charity, or social impact sectors.
  2. Significant experience producing events, and able to lead and advise on the engagement approaches
  3. Demonstrated experience in planning, organising, and delivering impactful events, from small workshops to large-scale gatherings, both online and in person.
  4. Seasoned facilitator with experience of applying participatory practice and approaches

Do you want to work for an organisation that makes a difference, every single day, to people from all walks of life? The people that turn to Citizens Advice need help overcoming an obstacle in their lives – from debt to evictions to trouble at work – and you can be key to them getting the support they need in the quickest, easiest, and most effective way.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is of strategic importance within the organisation and recognised as integral to all we do as a service.

Central to pursuing our EDI mission is building diverse and inclusive teams in which everyone has a sense of belonging. We believe inclusion is a social justice issue - a principle that underpins our all EDI work. To that end, we particularly welcome applications from people we would like to see better represented in our organisation and sector - people of colour, LGBTQ+ people and disabled people. We follow the social model of disability. We will offer an interview to disabled candidates who indicate they wish their application to be considered under our Disability Confident Interview Commitment where they meet our selection criteria in their application. Some of our roles attract a high volume of applications and in some circumstances where it is not practicable or appropriate, we may limit the number of interviews offered to disabled and non-disabled candidates. We will provide reasonable adjustments as needed.

We’re a flexible employer, so this role may suit anyone who’d prefer a flexible arrangement to help their work/life balance, many of our colleagues spend most of their time working remotely. Whilst we prefer a blended approach between a local office, if one is near you, and home we’re open to being flexible on location, occasionally a role may require you to be based in a certain location if that's the case it will be detailed in the advert or job description. This can be discussed in more detail during your interview.
