Senior Employment Solicitor
The Premier League’s legal team is looking for a Senior Employment Solicitor to support the Director of Legal – Commercial & Compliance and work closely with the Chief People Officer to provide high quality advice on contentious and non-contentious employment law matters impacting the Premier League’s operations including the League’s international subsidiaries and Premier League Studios (the League’s production business).
The right candidate will collaborate closely with all areas of the business in respect of their employment issues, offering strategic advice and tailored solutions.
The role
- Provide expert legal guidance in respect of the League’s operations (including Premier League Studios and the League’s international subsidiaries) in respect of all employment law compliance.
- Identify and address employment legal and compliance gaps, offering proactive advice and aiding in the development of recommended actions and policies.
- Stay updated on emerging employment laws and regulations, collaborating with the Chief People Officer and Director of Legal – Commercial and Compliance to create a compliance plan and program.
- Develop and review employment-related policies and procedures, providing necessary guidance and documentation support to the People department.
- Oversee employment-related disputes, litigation, and regulatory proceedings, including managing external legal counsel.
- Responsibility for instructing and managing the relationship with external legal counsel in respect of all employment-related matters (including instructing local external counsel in international jurisdictions).
- Support and advise in respect of investigations related to employee complaints and workplace concerns, as required.
- Responsibility for knowledge share in respect of employment law updates that are relevant to the People department’s role.
Requirements for the role
- Qualified solicitor of approximately 5-7 year’s post qualification experience (candidates outside this range with the required skills to be considered).
- Experience of advising on complex UK employment matters (such as TUPE transactions) and dispute resolution ideally within a large organisation.
- High quality academic background and robust legal training from a reputable law firm and/or a recognised in-house legal department ideally within a large, multi-jurisdictional organisation.
- Experience drafting and negotiating a range of employment-related legal documents (such as settlement agreements and tribunal documents).
- Confident, articulate, and personable with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts into a clear and understandable format both orally and in writing to individuals from all levels of the business.
- Sound commercial knowledge, ideally with some experience working in or with the sports industry.
- Experience of data protection matters.
- Team player, highly organised, solution oriented and a keen attention to detail.
- Able to cope with pressurised situations and tight timeframes whilst maintaining a professional approach.
