  • An exceptional and inspirational Senior Deputy Head is required from September 2026 to help lead Brighton College Prep School into an exciting and ambitious new chapter. We are also open to a January 2027 start date.

    Brighton College is currently investing £20 million to develop an outstanding new Prep School in the heart of Brighton, with exceptional, world-class facilities opening in September 2028. This landmark project represents a significant moment in the school’s history and will provide a remarkable environment in which young people can learn, grow and flourish.



    The Senior Deputy Head will play a central role in this journey. Alongside significant responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and running of the school, the successful candidate will work closely with the Head to help shape the future of the Prep School and bring to life the College’s ambitious vision for its new home.

    This is a rare opportunity for a creative, forward-thinking and dynamic leader to make a lasting impact, helping to guide the school through an exciting period of growth and development while ensuring Brighton College Prep School continues to offer an exceptional educational experience for every child.Responsibilities Include:Senior Deputy Head:
    • To be responsible to the Headmaster for the day-to-day running of Brighton College Prep School.
    • To deputise for the Headmaster where necessary.
    • To oversee the school curriculum, as well as the quality of teaching and learning, and the school timetable.
    • To inspire excellence in our teaching staff through oversight of the Appraisal and CPD systems.
    • To oversee pupil behaviour, and ensure that pupils are courteous, considerate and kind, and that they are appropriately and smartly dressed, in accordance with the uniform policy.
    • To play a central role in all Admissions events, attracting pupils and families to join BCPS.
    • To attract the very best teachers to BCPS through oversight of staffing and recruitment.
    • To oversee effective communication with parents, including the weekly Parent Bulletin and termly Parent Pop-ins.
    • To foster positive relationships with our parent body, in particular through the Parents’ Association and termly Parent Forum.
    • Inspection preparation and management of the Inspection week.
    Specific Duties for all Roles in Senior Management:
    • Be supportive of the school and its aims.
    • Promote and model the highest standards of teaching and learning in their own lessons.
    • Assist with the regular Admissions events and occasions.
    • Foster positive and collegiate working relationships across the school.
    • Be part of the Brighton College Family of Schools INSET days and will help to co-ordinate collaboration across the Prep schools throughout the year.
    Specific Teaching Responsibilities (Reduced Teaching Timetable):
    • To be responsible for teaching an allocated timetable, according to school policies and schemes of work.
    • To be responsible for the high quality of learning of pupils within his/her lessons.
    • To positively encourage pupils to realise their full potential and set an example of best practice to other members of staff.
    • To create and maintain effective partnerships with parents to support and improve pupils’ achievements and personal development.
    Safeguarding Responsibilities:
    • This role will involve daily contact with pupils, and the successful candidate will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
    • All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible and with whom they come into contact.

  • Brighton College has its own generous pay scale, above that of the maintained sector. All of our teachers are enrolled into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS). Generous fee remission is also available for dependent children in either the Prep School or College, subject to a place being offered.
