Department: Christian Science Practitioner Activities
SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Senior Administration and Operations Coordinator is to support the Christian Science Practitioner Activities department in communicating and actualizing the role of The Mother Church in guiding, strengthening, and protecting the practice of Christian Science healing throughout the world as set out in the Church Manual and described in the Pastor and other writings of Mary Baker Eddy.
The Senior Administration and Operations Coordinator does this, under the direction of the Manager, by 1) providing constituent services to the worldwide Christian Science practitioner corps and others, 2) providing administrative support to the CSPA Manager and Assistant Manager, and 3) implementing special projects to enhance constituent services and internal administration to further the healing mission of The Mother Church.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations: Provides constituent services to the worldwide Christian Science practitioner corps and others in a manner that supports communication and builds a supportive trusting relationship with The Mother Church. (40-50%)
Working with CSPA management, in a manner that builds trust between constituents and The Mother Church, this Coordinator
- Prayerfully supports the department and its Manual-based activities carried out worldwide.
- Provides administrative services to assist Christian Science practitioners, church members, the public and other Mother Church departments with:
- applications for advertising in the directories of The Christian Science JournalandThe Herald of Christian Science,
- requests to remove advertising,
- directory services, and
- other inquiries received by phone, email, etc.
- These services involve responding with spiritual sense, wisdom, discernment, promptness, and grace from initial contact to conclusion, helping the department resolve any issues.
- applications for advertising in the directories of
- Organizes and manages written communications to the Christian Science practitioner corps and other groups, including mailings, the private website for Journal-listed practitioners and the CSPA-related page on christianscience.com.
- Coordinates the logistical aspects of workshops and video conference calls for Journal-listed practitioners or those interested in the full-time public practice.
- Maintains accurate, up-to-date practitioner information and prepares reports as needed.
- Stays well-informed about the current Church, CSPS, and CSPA policies and procedures to ensure adherence to them.
- Attends meetings and fields incoming calls or emails when the CSPA Manager is unavailable.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Administration: Provide outstanding administrative support for the CSPA Manager and Assistant Manager to free them up to focus on their more strategic duties. (30-40%):
- Develops an understanding of the Manager’s and Assistant Manager’s current needs and how to meet them; anticipates additional needs, proposing solutions to meet them.
- Manages the CSPA mailbox by reviewing incoming correspondence, preparing responses of the highest quality, accuracy, completeness, and grace or forwarding to other team members and tracking to be sure responses are made in a timely manner.
- Proactively assists with calendars for the CSPA Manager and Assistant Manager to ensure sufficient time for priority activities and anticipating and resolving any conflicts.
- Coordinates the CSPA workflow to ensure tasks, processes, projects are tracked to completion, including organizing and maintaining the CSPA Trello boards.
- Organizes and maintains filing (mostly electronic) for the CSPA office.
- Coordinates and updates information in databases such as Salesforce, runs reports and provides technical support for the office with efficiency and confidentiality.
- Assists Manager and Assistant Manager with expense reporting.
- Serves as a key liaison to other TMC/CSPS departments as needed for constituent services, projects, or administrative matters.
- Ensures that the department’s workspace needs are met, including ordering supplies, addressing any facilities needs or issues, handling technology matters.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Projects: Helps the CSPA Manager and Assistant Manager conceive of and implement special projects and other enhancements to constituent services and internal operations that will improve, add, or keep services abreast of the times, with “wisdom, economy and brotherly love.” (10-30%)
This Coordinator will, from time to time,
- Supports the CSPA Manager in developing updates to guidelines, procedures, and forms related to CS practitioners to protect the integrity of the Christian Science healing practice.
- Supports the CSPA Manager in developing resources and implementing methods of support for Journal-listed CS practitioners and/or the Christian Science Board of Directors. For example, travel administration and relevant research and communication.
- Supports the CSPA Manager in developing and curating content for CS practitioner events.
- Leads and/or assists with projects as directed by the CSPA Manager, for e.g. correspondence and communication, and cross-functional improvement projects.
- Researches and prepares special reports on policy, precedent, and other topics, as directed by the CSPA Manager.
- Other special projects, as assigned.

Regular Contacts: Other members of the CSPA team, Christian Science practitioners, members of The Mother Church and the public. Members of other Mother Church and Christian Science Publishing Society departments, including Customer Care Center, Journal Directory Services, the CSPS Board of Trustees, the Board Office, Committee on Publication, Office of the Clerk, Office of the General Counsel, Christian Science Nursing Activities, Church Activities, Board of Lectureship, Board of Education, Office of the Treasurer, Real Estate Planning & Operations, Office of the Chief Information Office, Promotion & Design Services Group, Office of Language Services, Office of Records Management.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience: This position requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Previous solid professional office experience required:
- Experience in managing routine processes according to standard policies and procedures.
- Experience in project coordination/management.

Knowledge/Skills:
This position requires excellent oral, written, and telephone communications skills. An ability to work in a highly confidential and sensitive environment. Thrives while working both independently as well as in a collaborative team environment. Comfortable with both repetitive routine work as well as one-time projects requiring creativity and problem-solving, seamlessly managing multiple tasks and projects while meeting varying deadlines. Knowledge of process and project management skills. Fluent word processing skills; solid knowledge of spreadsheets, databases; PowerPoint or slide skills helpful. Languages in addition to English are helpful, although not required, as the work is global in scope. A sensitivity to global cultures and thoughtful communication is required.
Technology Skills:
Proficient with computers (Mac or PC), including knowledge and ability to utilize programs such as G-Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Forms, Gmail), Microsoft Word and Excel, Trello, Zoom, Salesforce, Enterprise, Slack, WhatsApp, Adobe Acrobat. Maintains a current understanding of technology and is willing and able to learn and utilize new technology, software and databases.
Work Environment
This full time position works at The Mother Church in Boston, with a possibility for remote work one day a week. Contributes to a loving, calm, and inspired environment.
Engagement with Christian Science:
Membership in The Mother Church and Primary Class instruction required. Must have a sound metaphysical approach with solid familiarity with the Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and other writings by Mary Baker Eddy, including the Church Manual, especially by-laws relating to practitioners. Supports the Christian Science Board of Directors. It is preferable that the individual is an active member of a Branch Church (or local Mother Church member) or Christian Science Organization. Prior professional experience as a Christian Science practitioner or Christian Science nurse is helpful.
Pay Range: $76,025 - $98,832.20 Annually
The pay ranges disclosed in our job postings are the compensation ranges the Church reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for a given position at the time of posting.
The offered salary will be determined by factors such as the applicant’s relevant education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities; and benchmarking, work location, and internal equity.
