We are seeking a committed and motivated SENDIASS Practitioner to join our team in Hull.

This is a rewarding opportunity to provide impartial, legally based information, advice and support to families of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

You will support children and young people aged 0–25 and their families, helping them to understand their rights and navigate education, health and social care systems.

Role Overview

The SENDIASS Practitioner provides information, advice and support relating to Education, Health and Social Care to families living in Hull.

The role is primarily office-based, with regular local outreach work and attendance at external meetings. A full driving licence, access to a car and business-use insurance are required.

Key Responsibilities

You will be independently trained to deliver information, advice and support via phone, email, online platforms and face-to-face, including:

• Providing information on rights under SEND law and legislation
• Supporting families to understand local policy and the Hull Local Offer
• Advising on key SEND processes, including EHC needs assessments, appeals and tribunals
• Explaining organisational processes for resolving disagreements, complaints and routes of redress
• Signposting families to relevant local and national sources of information, advice and support
• Triaging referrals and undertaking focused casework
• Supporting or representing families in meetings with professionals, mediations and tribunals
• Working directly with young people aged 16–25, as well as parents/carers and professionals
• Supporting service users to understand and complete assessment, review and complaints paperwork through scheduled drop-in sessions

Additional Responsibilities

• Promote the SENDIASS service through engagement events, online promotion and partnership working
• Maintain accurate records for monitoring, evaluation and reporting
• Take responsibility for ongoing professional development and keeping up to date with SEND legislation and policy
• Ensure the welfare of children and young people is paramount and report safeguarding concerns appropriately
• Undertake any other duties consistent with the role

Safeguarding

The post holder must comply with all Kids policies and procedures, including safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and partnership working.

You will be responsible for safeguarding the health, wellbeing and safety of children and young people and must report any concerns immediately in line with organisational procedures.

Person Specification

Essential

• Knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014, Education Act 1996, SEN Code of Practice and Disability Discrimination Act, with a willingness to continue learning
• Ability to complete intensive online and face-to-face training in the SEND legal framework
• Ability to remain impartial in line with IASS Minimum Standards
• Experience supporting vulnerable families and children
• Excellent communication skills across a range of platforms
• Ability to present complex information accurately and accessibly
• Flexible and professional approach, including dispute resolution
• Knowledge and experience of issues affecting families of children with additional needs and disabilities
• Experience of working in a multi-agency environment
• Strong understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures
• Excellent IT skills, including databases and applications such as Excel
• Knowledge of data protection and confidentiality
• A full driving licence, access to a car and business insurance for work-related travel

Education / Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (e.g. A Level)

Desirable

• Experience delivering training or workshops
• Experience working in schools
• Experience of conflict resolution, dispute resolution or mediation
