The highly successful, thriving and popular Science department is seeking an additional Second in Charge to join in September 2026.
The Science department has 11 laboratories at the main Tunbridge Wells campus and six further laboratories at the Sevenoaks campus. All are fully equipped for high-quality teaching and learning, and one laboratory is specialised for teaching A Level Chemistry. The Science department is supported by a team of five technicians.
At KS3, students follow an adapted and extended version of the Activate Science scheme and at GCSE we teach the AQA syllabus with all students studying separate Science GCSEs. Years 7–9 are taught general Science until Year 10 when Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught as separate subjects. Science at A Level continues to be a highly popular choice, with Biology numbers growing each year. At A Level Biology students follow the OCR specification.
The purpose of this role is to provide effective support for the leadership and management of the area and thereby build and maintain an effective teaching team, which continually enhances the quality of learning and achievement.

In addition, the specific requirements of the post of classroom teacher, along with the particular duties expected of the post holder have been set out below.

- Monitoring individual and groups of students' progress against targets within the subject, as identified and agreed by HOD and RSL;
- Monitoring students’ progress and performance across KS4 with the class teacher in relation to targets set for each individual, ensuring that personalised interventions are actioned where necessary.

They will be able to provide effective support to the Science department and steer areas of common interest and strategy across the department in order to enhance the quality of learning and achievement.
