UWC is a deliberately diverse, mission-driven international college with a strong commitment to the educational principles of Kurt Hahn, its founder, and a passionate belief in the importance of education as a force for good in the world - to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

Since 1962, UWC has entrusted students with authentic responsibility and guided them to make appropriate choices and to learn from their mistakes. It is through this trust, responsibility and accountability that students learn that they can make a difference (‘You are needed’) and that through effort and engagement they can achieve far more than they ever imagined (‘There is more in you than you think’).

UWC Atlantic College is recruiting for a Seasonal Activity Leader.

Prepare for a fast-paced, rewarding summer! Our groups come from all corners of the globe, giving you the chance to connect with incredible young people and make a meaningful impact on their lives.

While this is not a complete list, here are some of the activities we provide: team games, problem-solving, archery, orienteering, hiking, bushcraft, swimming, watersports, and climbing.

In this role, you’ll act as a vital link between day programme staff and young people ranging from 8-17 years of age, offering ongoing support, pastoral care and well-being assistance.

Previous experience in group leadership, outdoor activities, or pastoral work is not required, though it may strengthen your application. What’s essential is your eagerness to learn, your passion for supporting young people’s growth, and your willingness to work in outdoor environments, which may involve physically demanding tasks. Your role will be central to fostering a supportive and welcoming household community for participants.

All successful applicants will receive comprehensive training before the programmes begin, along with ongoing support, supervision, and mentoring to enhance their skills. Where possible, we aim to provide recognised accreditation for training.

Reporting to: Course Director

  • Plan, lead and deliver the range of activities
  • Take responsibility for maintaining and cleaning activity resources, facilities and equipment
  • Support the general operations of UWC Atlantic Experience, including other events taking place on campus
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably required

  • Strong interest in working with young people
  • Able to role model good social behaviours and values
  • Show empathy
  • Good teamwork
  • Honesty and integrity
  • Good timekeeping and punctual
  • Uphold the UWC Values at all time
  • Interest in personal development and continuous learning
  • Good IT skills
  • The minimum age required to apply is 18
  • Fixed-term roles are not eligible to be sponsored by the College, so it is your responsibility to obtain a suitable visa. If you are applying from a qualifying country, please contact: https:/bunac.org for visa support services.
